Have you actually watched the m3 gts vs rs3 video? It clearly shows things a lot different from the slant you're putting on it. The rs3 is a lot better/easier to drive fast in a variety of real world surfaces and conditions.. The m3 is all over the place sliding at the ragged edge, and he doesn't wave the RS past, he gets outbreaked and out driven...!
but then us mere mortals are not all "pro drivers" so I feel this is a better real world test than some test pilot lap times. Rwd=great on a race track driven by a pro in the dry.. Rs3=great everywhere :)

^^^ I have to agree. The RS3 looks like a far easier track car to drive than that M3 GTS in the vid.
Wheather the M3 GTS guy is a "pro" or not so pro driver, the RS3 makes the statement quite clear....."Fast easy driver!"

Are we also overlooking the Autocar (?) video where the RS3 also beats the M135i's big brother the M1 in a straight drag..............?

Fact is, the RS3 is the better car for everyday UK drivers, just as the RS4 was better than the M3 and M5. You just cannot get the power down in our cold wet climate. I have had all the cars I have mentioned above, so feel I can comment truthfully.

If you live your life from one traffic light to another, then great. But that video shows once moving the BM was taking chunks out the Audi.

Each car has it's target audience. If you want easy to drive, point and squirt, safe motoring, then go to a Audi dealership. if on the other hand you want more driver involvement/fun, then head to BMW.. Simples!

That's funny... I must of missed the part where CH jumped in to the TVR/Noble/Lotus/TVR.. I just thought this test/discussion was between the RS3 and M135i?!?! Must pay more attention next time..

If you want this to happen then buy a 1m lol Simples ;) That's why Quattro rules in rainy days... - VORSICHT Hong Kong
fact is the BMW is a waste of money on the road, full stop. And the 1m is a waste of money for the track too - any decent proper track car will hand it it's ass in the first couple of bends. It is not really a tool for any job as far as I can see, not enough fr the track and no good on the road.
There's nowt fun about not being able to use a car properly 90% of the time. Strangle it with dsc, or crash? Watch the touring cars at the weekend, the commentators said more than once that even fwd was better than rear in the wet.

    What a truly ridiculous statement..

Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Porsche,Ferrari, McClaren etc all need to go back to the drawing board guys, as this chap has found a vid on you tube of some tit crashing his 1M in Hong Kong..

Wow, your opinions are sooo well informed and balanced - not full of hyperbole at all... Your entire argument is based around the BMW being a "drivers car" maybe form some opinions of your own rather than just spouting what you've heard second hand from a crummy journalist trying to fill column inches. You have taken one sentence out of context and tried to be clever.... Fail
Maybe if we lived in a country with lovely smooth tarmac and lots of sun I'd go back to a m series BMW, but we don't - so rs3 still the clear winner... I don't bang nails in with a screwdriver mate

There's got to be more going on there - guy giving it a blip of throttle just as he went over the bumps (so even more weight came off the rear) maybe?

Not sure that serves as an arguement that all BMWs are a waste of money though... I'd say Audi's are absurdly over priced, much worse than BMW. I do however feel that 4wd outweighs any sort of dynamic advantage that the BMW could have over the Audi - same as the RS4 being the car the TG boys all wanted on the drive home from the Ascari track when testing against the M3 and C63.

I don't think BMs are a waste of money, you just have to know what you are doing, and they can catch you out (but some people love this), I would love a 1M as a weekend / track toy, but not an everyday driver especially with winter now upon us.

All german cars are massively over priced once you spec options, the 135i is very close in price to the RS3 when you match spec, you can take an M5 to over 90k!!! And dont forget the RS3 is an expensive car to make, it has to be taken off the line and moved to the TT factory, hacked about to get the engine, box and 8V rear suspension fitted and then finished. They could only make 10 a day.

Here's a vid of an RS3 on track being driven properly, quite different to how harris's clarksonesq driving portrayed it

Er.... My argument was based on the M135i being more of a 'drivers car' than the RS3, not the best 'drivers car' ever made! So please don't twist my words..
Coming from a VAG background and spending 6 years / 200k miles in VAG performance hatchbacks as well as having driven countless Audi S/RS models, I feel I have a decent amount of experience of how they drive. As for forming some opinions of my own, I've have now done over 40k in my current 135i so forgive me if i'm out of line and spouting gibberish.. :blahblah1:

Ok fair enough, maybe I took it a little too personally lol.. I apologise, didn't realise you actually had a 135i.. Guess we both are gonna defend the cars we bought otherwise we wouldn't have bought them.
Im probably being a bit OTT saying the bmw is a waste of money, particularly as I've been avoiding the bad weather anyway to keep it clean :lmfao: the definition of irony! Could've had a bimmer :)
i would say though, every m series BMW I've drive was pretty hairy in the dry too, as the stiff suspension and rwd gets unsettled more on the road than a Quattro due to the bumps - but is much better on the smoother surfaces of a track.

Having sat and looked around the rs3 I would also say that it's not as expensive as all that - it is a thoroughly different animal in so many ways than the slightly cheaper s3.. The exhaust it has for starters is a beauty for a stock piece of kit...

    Apology accepted pal.. :sm4:

I feel your pain with regards keeping the car clean. I am the upper most anal person when it comes to that. I was having a pleasant drive just yesterday after having cleaned my car and came round the corner on a local B road only to be confronted by about 6 inches of mud thanks to a local farmer crossing fields on his **** spreader :puke: I could of commit suicide at that point.. :crying:

Oh and speaking of irony - I may be looking at a RS3 next due to the mileage I will be doing with work (mainly motorway).. So after all that... :jump:
At least it shows I'm not bias.. ;)

I was guilty the other day of swerving round a large puddle the other day created by a drain overflowing even though the rest of the road was dry!
