To those who have already picked up their new A3....did you take a day off work to pick it up, or did you wait until the weekend?

Same question to those who have got their A3 on order!

I'm expecting mine to be ready to pick up in February 2014, so I've got a while yet. I would probably take a day off work to pick it up because:

    (a) The dealer will be less busy than on a weekend. He can therefore spend more time with me to do the handover
    (b) I simply cannot wait any longer!

I will be collecting midweek because they will be less busy. Whether that means I will really get more attention remains to be seen. Depending on who's asking, I will either be taking a day off work or bunking off for a few hours.

I took a day off on Wednesday to pick up my S3, had to pick her from Grimsby (I live in Mansfield) so 180 mile round trip!
It was good going midweek as wasn't at all busy and wanted to make a day of it! Also went for fish and chips in Cleethorpes while I was there!

I picked up mine on a Wednesday afternoon. Had to take a half-day off work and jump on a train from London up to Gloucester to reach the dealer.

Has to be day off work, collect around 11 home for lunch and the afternoon driving.
ideally dry day with the car parked outside not covered in a handover bay.
This gives you time to inspect the car exterior for any marks etc without the salesman knowing.
If not ask him to uncover it before you sign any paper work, can't sign for something you've not
    seen........

I'm taking Friday off. Setting off from Cambs at around 9, reach Carlisle about 2! Play around & do the inspection during daylight for a few hours and then get to experience the interior light pack and LED's halfway through the drive home! Perfect!

You won't need to look at it for a few hours the urge to drive will take over.
You will like the nterior light pack looks very cool....

Carlisle will be dark by 3pm so you'll certainly get good use of the LED's. And on a Friday afternoon I suspect you'll be able to test start-stop plenty of times on the M6!

I personally took half a day off as it took a couple of hours to leave with the car. My dealership has a long routine and this is especially true for more expensive models such as the s3.

I picked mine up on a weekday. I wanted to get mine as close to 1st September as possible.

I couldn't collect actually on Sunday 1st as I was away, so I picked it up the day after on the Monday :) The dealership wasn't too busy actually seeing as the new plate was just out, although they did say they had quite a few cars going out that day. The salesman had plenty time to spend with me, and I wasn't rushed at all.

Actually mine should have arrived right at the start of the school holidays, then after Christmas we were going up to Suffolk. Would have been good timing if it had happened...

If I were you I'd get to manc go around the m60, across snakepass (good road although can get busy) into Sheffield and then across to the A1 and down. Will be a good drive if you stay off motorways.

Collecting mine this Monday so taken the day off. Getting there around midday so plenty of time to inspect and have a 100 mile trip home.

Mine's due March too (company car). Usual practice is for car to be handed over at workplace but think I'd rather have a day off and drive to dealer for a handover. Ordered a Sportback S-line 184 tdi with B&O so quite fancy a run out in it rather than the short drive home from work!

My SB S line TDI 184 Quattro due for collection 1st March (Sat). :))) I'm on shift that day as a Paramedic but I'm going to book it off, book a double delivery slot with dealer, (so plenty of time to inspect it and enjoy the handover), then take the wife for surprise 2 day break to North Wales to break it in...

The A57 to Sheffield is also a good road. Used to live in Penistone, yes there is a town called that...

Yeah I went to uni in Sheffield, lived there for 4 years! Great city! Might pop in on my way back and say hello to friends! And I agree, the peaks could well be a good choice, just gotta watch out for sheep in the middle of the road!

I live at the start of both roads and regularly use A57 to get down to see parents in London, but find A57 you always get held up behind lorries and the roads a lot straighter. still good though.

Happened to be booked off anyway when the message came through that it arriving September instead of Nov as originally indicated.

Nice 1st drive all the way from Stafford to Glasgow up the M6/M74 don't know how you guys tolerate that traffic down there though, thought it was bad up here at times.
