Does anybody know how messy a job it is to adjust the handbrake
mine is stuck off on the drivers side, and won't lock the break on.
Have my mot tomorrow evening at 4, so going to have a crack at it the morning.
Big can of wd40 I presume, or is there anything else I need to watch out for
cheers in anticipation :friends:

The cables rarely need adjusted, and i'd suggest its somewhat more likely that its the caliper itself.

is the cable meant to be self-adjusting?
mine was just on the limit of passing the MOT, apparently.

-stops the car rolling at the lights but no chance of it locking the wheels!

I "over"adjusted mine up on the ramp, then realised when I tried to move the car... But this was only because the rear pads were royally screwed and had self adjusted down.

Easy adjustment on a FWD but as Aragorn had said. Shouldn't need doing generally

Cheers lads, fitted new pads about 2 months ago and all was fine
going to have a look see this morning and see what's going on

Have you adjusted these before?

The adjusters are fairly fiddly, and are hidden behind the exhaust heatshield.

Aragorn you were right, the unit on the caliper was partially bound up.
Freed it out, but still had to adjust the caliper. All done now.
On the plus side she passed the mot with flying colours. Yipeeee
