Understand the handbrake is self adjusting, know the design of the threaded caliper will self adjust for the wear of the pads but does the cable have an adjuster or is just all done by the caliper?

In the middle of refurbing a pair of S4 calipers for the rear of my B7 and before fitting I like to get my head around potential issues. I've read the handbrake cable is slightly longer on the S4, the normal B7 one will be ok though but just wondering if it's possible can I slacken the cable right back and let it adjust itself up to suit the new calipers.
