Halfords Free Checks

    Hi, Mrs had car booked into Halfords for a few free checks. They've had the car today and kept it for around 4 hours, they've produced a list of all the problems and I agree with them completely. We didn't tell them of any problems we were experiencing and left them to it. Ok so they said all brake discs are slightly corroded and lipped, I've since looked and yep they are pretty messed up. I've had a rattle on the car for a while now, thought it was the heatshield which I fixed and rattle still there. In the report it says 'Both rear back plates insecure and rattling'. I'm guessing this is the rattle which has sent me insane, has anybody heard of this problem before? Also they said the 'Suspension Link Front N/S Droplink boot has split', don't know what this is and what sort of problems it'll cause. Anybody enlighten me? Battery is showing half charge was another, car sometimes doesn't turn over. Takes a few goes to get it started, sounds like they could be related? I've got a squeak whenever I turn right, its loud and annoying. Thought it was the ARB bushes which I sprayed with WD40, noise remained. Halfords have put 'Both front tyres rubbing on inner edges', could this be the squeak that has so far eluded me? A few other things but I'll upload the print off. The prices are on these sheets which I think are a little extortionate to say the least, i'm wondering if anybody has had any of these jobs done and if so what did you pay? Any opinions are greatly welcomed, thanks guys and girls

    Took it to Audi a while ago, they didn't check anything like what Halfords do

    They do, you get a full printout from everything they check, green/amber/red

    274 quid for evergreen tyres, is that for 4?
    Don't know how they could be rubbing unless its been lowered or spacers added.
    The brakes are definitely cheaper than audi for discs and pads.
    The battery seems cheap and not something I'd go for myself.
    Dunno about the other the suspension stuff.
    Personally I wouldn't put it to halfords, past experience with kids bikes and problems has put me off lol.
    Can u not find a reputable Indy specialist close?

    Halfords!?!? I wouldn't let that bunch of monkeys change my dustcaps any more than I would the gommos in KwikFit.

    They don't, I have the print off sheet that Audi did for me mate

    Yeah I think it's for 4, I'm not paying it anyway. I'm not getting them to do the work, I'll take it to my Indi and see what they say. Just wanted a few opinions on prices and the problems they've highlighted

    I'm not letting them do the work, I wouldn't. Just used the free checks they offer

    My 06 a3:- did all brake pads and discs all genuine, £110 all inclusive, got parts myself from tps and got local mechanic to fit!

    110 for front and back Discs and pads OEM?
    Now that's a good deal!

    Impossible for front and rear including pads, as the parts alone are well over £110!!?? I'm guessing it is just the fronts.

    hi mate that was front and rears, my local tps had an offer going on at the time plus a lot extra off for being a club member,

    stuff is quite cheap there and all genuine, examples, oil filter £6.66, 1.5 litre g13 coolant £6.02 all inc vat

    Fair enough fella, you got an excellent price then, hope you bought yourself a spare set for that price, it would have been wrong not to :)

    I know TPS only supply genuine VAG products as I have used them many a times for my retrofits parts.
