    What Jason says.

I was bored of talking about this before it even started; and as more and more people come in to see this discussion which I have been part of since time began I have run out of interest for the subject.

I offered the car up for any challengers in the run up to ADI; and MORE than matched the competition on the track where the only limitations were driver ability (of which I have none) and the performance of the car.

I will be at ADI this year, see you all then for round two.

    New Jardo doesn't do arguments.

    -

Taking all of the S3 VS A3 bull**** out of it; an S3 is not the right car for Marty. At all. For all of the reasons I said.

Jardo, just noticed your tag line, if you had a proper gearbox you could use MAN launch all the time, rather than boy boost once in a while................

    Just saying yes :p

we all know in standard form Quattro would out handle and A3, if someone with an S3 done the same as prawn, in every meaning of the word, then it will prob still be quattro that wins

im old enough to remember the best Group B car, that my friends was the AUDI QUATTRO nuff said me thinks

(and lets face it i dont own an S3, im not overly keen on the styling of the S3 or A3 tbh, i love mk5 golfs :)

Was this comment aimed at me? Or 16klappe?

if it was aimed at the klappe, then ignore me.

If it was aimed at me, then please read the thread carefully, I haven't once mentioned it, only quoted a few funny posts from this thread about me, but not posted by me.

    As you were....

I think he is best ignored Prawn, he is a newbie making assumptions without knowing the background.

Hence my lack of acknowledgement or interest. :)

    I haven't said anything!

All I have said is that in my experience an A3 is the better car for Marty, wasn't me who started slinging mud.

Marty asked for experiences and opinions, so I have given his mine. And you S3 boys have told him I am wrong, but not why he should buy an S3.

    This confuses me.

Just read the thread, quite hilarious. I think everyone is different. In the past year I have had a S3, A 220bhp Beemer and now the 1.8T A3, The S3 was **** at first I had previously had a legacy b4, thats proper 4wd and was very throwable, precise and gave you confidence. However I put some decent tyres on the S3 and it improved it no end. It was great for traction under acceleration coming out of a corner but was never very clever in mid corner, Unpredictable perhaps. But did its job that it was designed to do so I wont complain too much. The BMW been a big heavy diesel, 220bhp and slammed was a handful to say the least but was a hoot to drive. The controllability mid corner was fanstastic and was quite happy to be thrown about. I loved it. The a3 has me on edge atm, Its bog standard to I know there is a huge amount of improvement to be made. FWD is the least fun but has lots of benefits. Plus throw in a Diff and you are laughing.

So basically it depends how you like your car to handle. Out of the 2 I actually prefer the FWD but not at std power. Less to go wrong and more predictable. Not to mention the weight you are pulling around.

RWD still kicks ass, That or a real 4wd system. Id still buy an s3 in the morning though.

well thanks for the welcome ;)

i was referring to you in my comment, not prawn. My point was you are stating that it is fact your car is better/faster than the s3's on track as you 'rinsed' them, but have taken no other factors into the equation at all (the ones I mentioned in my first post). You mention driver talent a lot which in itself shoots down your argument as the person asking the question about what is better may well be more talented than you and prefer Quattro?! The thread has wandered of topic but your comments amused me a lot so I thought I would throw in my 2 pence! No offence intended, just pointing out the obvious!

You can't compare 2 cars from trackdays as 1. It's not a race or a completion on a trackday, 2. You have no idea how hard the other cars are pushing at the time ( hence my reference to racing a Ferrari away from the lights......).

As for being a newb, to this forum I suppose I am, but I have enough experience from doing trackdays to make the above comments, and know enough about fwd/awd from my two previous cars to have a fair grasp on the benefits and downfalls of both.

Anyway, as per my last comment I would urge the person in question to test drive both and go from there, apologies for straying of topic people, I shall return to the corner I came out from now..............

h3ppy, youre one of the wiser posters in this thread, and the fact you sum up jardo and his mentality in one post says alot. So dont worry about his disrespect for 'newbies'.

Anyone who wishes to 'race' at a public, and family orientated event like adi is a total moron.
And judging your car and speed to others at an event like adi, where no one is moronic enough to race anyone is crazy.

The track session in question is the Audi-Sport.net designated session at Audi Driver international.

I knew all but one person on the track, and we all knew each others cars.

There was months worth of banter building up to it, and many things were said and promised in the heat of the moment. So yes, the people who were trying really were trying. For the pride of their respective camps. And I was such a cocky prick that EVERYONE wanted to pass me, and I don't blame them I was a massive piece about the whole thing before hand.

What happened has happened, and as always the victor (me) has over exasperated the story and the losers (S3 boys) have said they weren't trying or that it would have been different in the wet. Who cares, it was two years ago. I was just trying to use what was an incredibly care free, low cost and rewarding experience to validate my opinion on what why an A3 is a better toy for Marty than an S3.

New cars, new year, different conditions and more experienced drivers, I can't wait for the next one.

The topic of what is better, Haldex or 2wd will never end as long as I have an arsehole. Because it is all a matter of personal opinion, and budget.

    -

My point stands STILL, the better car for what Marty wants is an A3. Because as I said he could buy a ready to go daily drivable A3 with all the right mods (such as mine, or VAGWHORES) to be a capable and competitive track day car for the same money as he could buy a standard S3.

It would cost him less to buy, less to insure, less to maintain, less to fuel, less to tax, less to drive on a daily basis and still look smart and reward him for his work arguably just as well as the equivalent S3 which costs more than double. And he wouldn't be financially ruined so would have money to actually use the car for its intended purpose.

Which lets face it, is the reason nobody has made a PROPER S3 track car, because it is too much of an investment and too much of a compromise for an amateur track day enthusiast when there are better options available for half the price. And the car itself is too compromised for a more competitive track day user to convert to a dedicated track car when given the alternatives.

    -

LOL SK, you are so fickle. I guess Prawn is the most moronic of the lot of us.

A track day is NOT a family event, there is no more or less spectator security at ADI than at a touring car race. So back in your box love. You go on track knowing the risks, if you want to be a pussy then join the parade lap with the children and virgins.

Just so sum up as well; reading through the first page it is all very nice and factual with some sedate banter up until this post. Arguing something which had been clearly proven in a video posted just a few posts up. You knew it would wind me up, so you can't rattle my cage and then make out like its all my fault when I bark back.

So what's all this you was 30 seconds ahead of me malarkey Jardo? We went through this last time, Prawny did not lap you or myself, and I was all over you for laps! The only thing you had over me was straight line speed, and the only reason I didn't pass you under braking was I didn't want you to write my car off! Lol

So why did you fly past me in the first lap? Because I care about my car, I like to warm my brakes up in the first lap before driving it to its limit. So if it was true you was 30 seconds ahead, I bloody caught you up! lol :racer:

There, I've got it off my chest, lucky there won't be a round two huh? :moa:

Am I the only one that brought an S3 over an A3 on looks rather than performance? S3 does look far better in my opinion.. Always thought the S3 stands out in a crowd of cars where as the A3 blends in - and for that reason I went for the S3.

I will never argue with you Jo, I love you too much.

You caught me up, because you are a driving god. A3's are ****, FWD is for fags and I should have bought an S3. :eiertritt:

Seamons (my co-pilot) told me that I should not care about being the quickest and hammer the brakes to get heat into the tires, on hindsight listening to him was a poor choice. As I found out when I had no brakes. Haha.

Nobody can deny it was a great session though, loads of fun.

I am a pussy when it comes to track driving...SO? Whats your point???!

It terrifies me, i love my car, i value it too much, and dont have enough faith in myself and ive never found the cars limit apart from a spin on the ring in 2010, jojo gave me some moral support at 2012 adi because i was so nervous lol. Im certainly not the type to rag a car on the ragged edge with an 'i am the don' attitude like yourself.

im not a total moron to go on any track with the mentality of 'im going to hammer it with a cold car out of the pit lane to prove i am the best, then im going to drive recklessly on the edge of common sense just to try and get across how good i am, and if i maintain that lead out the pits they might be foolish enough to believe im a racekor drivorrr! Yeeehhhh!'

Nobody, in their right mind at those events at adi was out there to prove a damn thing! I guarentee it!

This is why you make yourself look a fool, persistantly.

you cant just offer an opinion on simple questions or debates without going into how great you or your car is, its not credible, its not mature, its not clever, and its not helpful to anyone.

Reading that last line you sounded like Gloria Gaynor.

Your opinion in my opinion is just as bad as you seem to think my opinion is.

Your entire post above is absurd; cold car? It had been sat in the pits for ten minutes running and had been driven almost all day; whats to warm up other than tires?

The problem with going on track, ever, regardless of location, event or premise is that you cannot factor what other people want to do or what they are going to do. It is a risk you must accept before leaving driver brief. And it is not your right or place to criticise them publicly after the event when no wrong doing has occured.

What you are failing to understand or portray in your sanctimonious post is that we all sat a strict and informative drivers briefing before agreeing to terms and conditions and signing our consent for them.

If at any point my behaviour on track was suspect to compromising your safety I would have been flagged off; no such flags were shown at any point.

So in short, as long as I am not flagged how can I have been a risk to anybody on or off the track in any respect? I tend to lean with the marshals opinion in this rather than yours.

Arguably you yourself were more of a risk to other drivers, as a nervous and inexperienced driver being overly cautious.

But as it was; nobody was flagged, nobody died, and nothing more dangerous than letting 7 testosterone filled men in **** Audis drive around a closed circuit with ample run off space took place. And most importantly....

I got to give my car absolute death in the safest and most responsible way possible. If that isn't what you were there for and my doing so made you feel uncomfortable, then stay off track.

It was entirely my choice and intention to do so, and also my right given that I had paid for the session, attentively sat the drivers brief and drove the whole session without even a hint of an incident or disagreement.

So if there was any issues with dispatching traffic in a safe and efficient manor directly after leaving the pits then the marshals certainly didn't have a problem with it. After all, I was prepared to go much faster and my vehicle was more than capable of doing so.

However, I did nothing wrong and for you to suggest I was treating the sessions irresponsibly is absurd.

How you would have seen any of this I don't know, as you were so far behind I assume you must have been in a different post code.

If Jo wants to comment on the standard of driving, safety hazards or unsafe usage of our vehicles he may be slightly better informed. Having actually had me in eye sight for most of the session...
