    Hi all,

I was hoping for some advice.

Just had my Haldex oil change done at 80k mile. its the 3rd time it been change. Drop off my car at the Audi dealer for service, got the phone call say the Haldex oil needed changing, so fair enough. Picked up my car end of the day. As soon as i drove out of the car park heard a bad rubbing sound, took it back straight away. After about 10 mins i got told the noise is coming from diff. Got told to day by the dealer it needs a new control unit cost £1000. plus 2 hours fitting. Got told it had a fault on it, but it's just been in for a new dash and they had problems fitting that. so i should image it went on the dyno machine then.
Now Audi UK as a good will gesture are willing to foot half the bill.

    Many Thanks

    Si

sounds fishy to me why has haldex oil been changed three times at 80k???
service schedule states 40k so yeah changed twice but three times??????????
sounds like they have forgot to fill it back up with oil and are using the control unit fault to cover it up and the costs.
but i just don't trust Audi dealerships in general much better off using a independent VAG specialist!

it won't be the control unit, if the control unit goes then you will get an error code on the dash plus it won't make a noise if it does go, all the control unit does is operate the 4 wheel drive system, the ECU sends signals to the control unit telling it how much drive needs to go to the rear wheels which depends on the amount of front wheel spin the car is experiencing.

it sounds like they forgot to put oil in it and its chewed up the gears. i wouldn't pay a single penny and would get trading standards involved!

    Hi Treefrog,

Did the noise sound like open gears moving & grating when you were going along slowly? If so, it could well be that they've drained the diff oil. I had it recently & got that noise at low speed and a drone / whine that made the rear of the car sound "haunted" at speeds above 65mph.

But if it was the diff, the costs they've quoted you don't add up - a new diff from TPS is £2,560 so more from Audi I guess. TPS wanted £800 for the control unit alone, so £1000 from Audi may be a correct price for the control unit. If it really is that - doesn't sound like it.

I'd guess they've realised their error on the diff & are trying to get some money back from you for it. But I'm an untrusting git when it comes to Audi servicing...

    Good luck.

i've got to go into the dealer in the next couple of day to change my hirer car with them.
When i drove the car i thought it was the front wheel rubbing on the arches.
Also when telling me it was the control unit, the part is on back order until May. So Audi Uk are loaning me a car until then.
