    As discussed within another thread, I feel it would be worthwhile to now start consolidating all of the info and details of this group buy within its own dedicated thread for people to put names down and discuss further what the Turbo has to offer.

    This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a hybrid turbo for the S3 8p marque and with a bargain price if we get enough names to match the highest discount figure. This turbo is the next stage up from stage 2+. Some may say the beginning of stage 3 for a fraction of the price of stage 3 kits

    TTE420+ begins as a brand new standard BorgWarner K04-064 turbocharger that we dismantle and then set about upgrading and optimizing as engineers to create the ultimate TFSI hybrid. No K04 turbine (clipped or not) hybrid can match…

    TTE420+ Turbocharger is in our opinion the final step and our pinnacle power stage for the 2.0 TFSI range of vehicles while retaining the OE unit for Plug & Play fitment.
    Engineered & Enhanced

    The formula to making a TTE420+ starts with a much larger 2871 BorgWarner compressor wheel. Chosen because is highly efficient, new generation type with ultra thin blades, creating extremely high flow for comparative size, giving a compressor map that’s very wide. Yielding a maximum air flow rate of 310 litres a second, compared to a stock 2283 compressor at 250 litres. The Re-Profiled compressor cover is CNC machined to a optimized tolerance to ensure maximum compressor efficiency is given.

    The intake pipe is CNC ported and hand finished to give a smooth transition for the incoming air flow. TTE CNC modify the turbo silencer, removing the baffle internals and fit a new straight through section, removing the restriction and its function as a noise canceling device, and so improving the flow, giving less surge and enhancing the sound.

    A key part and in many ways the heart of this turbocharger for powering the large 2871 compressor and in turn making this unit produce the air mass and huge power advantage over stock and also the competition, is CNC Re-profiling the turbine housing to optimum clearance and fitting a far larger BorgWarner K16 turbine/shaft with a 49mm Exducer and 55mm Inducer, while still keeping the K04 bearing housing, this is not so easy to do. The K16 turbine we use, gives higher shaft torque and much lower back pressure, due to size, trim and geometry, being larger also lowers back pressure and so keeping EGT lower compared to stock K04 turbine or clipped stock types with a 44.5 Exducer and 50mm Inducer other company’s are still using. We also give the K16 Turbine blades a curved clip.

    The clipping of the K16 turbine is a special TTE grinding process to the turbine blade tips. Curved to alleviate stress from process. Clipping reduces blade area thus increasing gas flow and so reducing back pressure and lowering exhaust gas temperatures, allowing safer higher boost level’s. This process also gives a secondary advantage of removing some material, lightening the turbine thus reducing rotational mass improving moment of inertia. Dyno testing of our turbocharger have shown little loss in response vs stock K04 yet huge gains in power and torque.

    Significant attention is given to CNC port and hand finsh the exhaust runners at the flange to match and smooth the transition from head to exhaust runner for maximum gas speed/flow and so improving efficiency to the much bigger K16 turbine and so driving the compressor harder. (Optional at extra cost)
    Performance with Durability

    Special TTE developed in-house high performance motor sport journal bearing system is fitted and 360 deg thrust bearing. Durable at high loads with no loss in transient response.

    Actuator used is uprated sprung OE unit, fitted with our CNC reinforced clamps for trouble-free operation. This also can also be modified to customer needs and specifications.
    Equilibrium

    Precisely balancing our turbochargers is a key critical factor for longevity and performance. Good balance improves acoustics also. Subsequent great care is taken with all TTE turbochargers with this regard. Component parts are balanced at slow speeds at up to 2000RPM using our single parts machine, then components are assembled and then the CHRA are balanced yet again but this time dynamically in multiple planes at up to 250,000 RPM, using our in-house VSR machine to acquire the ultimate equilibrium. Each and every turbocharger is supplied with a balance test result document for your reassurance.

    Simon has confirmed the purchase price as:

    The group buy will run for 4 months, A closing date will be arranged towards the end of the first month so we do not under shoot on potential interest.

    I suggest using the first month to gauge interest within the forum aswell as starting a list for those wishing to make the purchase.

    Its understandable that most may not be able to pull £1400 out of thin air hense the length of this group buy. If it transpires that the desired amount of candidates is met, and all are ready for payment sooner than expected, the group buy may close ealrier than first suggested although this is something that will have to played by ear.

    As for details of payment, this is an area that can be discussed once most of the names are down but i'd imagine that it will be paid straight to Si and he will deal with all individual orders.

    I'd suggest that when most of the names are in we can arrange a deposit to be paid to secure our discount price for the turbos. Again, this will be discussed when we have reached a point where we feel we are almost ready to make the purchase.

    Hi Guys,

    Good to see this happening. With regards to the re-con/upgrades, I can't say we will have (used) exchange upgrades units in stock available but 100% can offer to recondition your own units and upgrade, with a turn around time of 10-20 working days depending on workload.

    Brand New right now today, i've got 10 units in process available did sell 3 of the 10 2.0 tfsi upgrade units yesterday. As im sure you can imagine we always try to hold some stock but really is not so easy as BorgWarner stock is not really available to the trade so to speak....we are allways on back order waiting and same with all others.

    Im always on the look for used units to buy and use for exchange but really these also are not so common and if anyone knows of any at a reasonable price, do put me in contact.

    Would it maybe be an idea to sell you our old units once we have our new units fitted? OR maybe offer some sort of exchange service?

    We buy a new unit and then get a further discount or refund when we send you our old one, I appreciate it wouldnt be as much as the re-con price option but a few people could be interested in that. Would save people having to punt their own.

    I'll do some digging on the "go between".

    As for engine work, if you have stage 2+ hardware (TBE,CAI,FMIC,HPFP) then this is plug and play. No internals needed.

    Depends on what company you are with. I have researched APR (who DON'T support it) And REVO who DO support it.

    Its HIGHLY recommended however that to get the best results right accross the board, the best route to take is a CUSTOM MAP from specialist mapping companies. Do a bit of research and find one right for you and your area.

    If you are REVO already then they can re-flash the mod for free, but don't expect the best out of it as there will be lots of variables "off the shelf" maps won't account for in this set-up.

    Im gonna speak to Shark HQ as I can do live data logging with some of the kit I have. If this is sufficient then it will be a case of road test with equipment plugged in and then send it to Shark HQ and they will tweak your Stage 3 Alex. Leave it with me and I shall get back to you.

    YES, Simon has offered buying back your stock K04 unit (on the basis it is sound i.e., not damaged in anyway) for $400 (£319)

    So if you sold him your turbo the total cost would only be £1146.

    Yeah i'm nearly sold just need to see what power output is possible on uk petrol and revo/custom mapping. Does it need new rs4 injectors?

    I will be at Ecotune on thursday for a power run and some advice on whats needed/can be expected from this upgrade in respects to the LPFP and the RS4 injectors. I'll post more info on thursday.

    I'm sure the Standard S3 Injectors are good for circa 450hp? I also thought the LPFP was only needed after going above 450hp.. But I suppose you would see maybe slight gains with them

    I thought the rs4 injectors have a bad spray pattern on comparison to the s3 injector and I also thought the s3 was good for 450+

    Righto, Spoke to Campbell at Ecotune Glasgow today about what is needed for this mod.

    RS4 injectors are NOT needed as they aren't as efficient as S3 ones which have been confirmed to be good for over 450hp, Aswelll as them having a totally different spray pattern, Campbell advised ,me that other S3's hes had come in for work with them on, he's taken them off and replaced with the stock S3 ones and seen better results accross the board. The same applies to the LPFP, it is also good for over 450hp, APR's uprated one still uses the stock pump so unless you plan on going for a bigger turbo, these are not neccessities for this K04 hybrid unless, as i said, you are plannning on going bigger in the future.

    What he did advise in, was to change the dis-charge and charge pipes as the stock ones have a pancake/flat spot in them to help with their location within the engine bay. Also, not a necessity but would help increase the power somewhat.

    On another note, my car made 375hp, 386ft.lbs at APR stage 2+ so not bad at all.

    I have heard different from tuner to tuner what works best and what's needed.

    But two different customers both have just confirmed needed to change LPFP.

    Not saying ECO are wrong just sharing info as i get it...

    How does the reCON option work?

    Can I send my own K04 (8p S3) to TTE to have it converted? What would the cost and time frame be, if this is possible?

    Hi,

    Recon/Upgrade of customers used serviceable unit is really a core part of what we do. Cost is as on website (Recon/Upgrade €1299.00) but if bought in the group buy, the discount applies. Time frame to Recon/Upgrade your used unit is around 10-15 days average..
