OK, I've made some parts today, pictured below. As you can see I have changed the outer shape, but all the loctaion features are unchanged so they will fit without any modification, which is just as well as the one I was copying I dropped and it smashed!

I can nearly match the price Steve quoted, but will have to charge shipping on top (sorry). So they will be £14 per pair plus £2 P&P UK and £8 International, if you want more than 2 set the postage will be the same.

PM me if you want some.

    Cheers
    Gregg

Corrr! Nice work! Bling! Do they come anodized in different colours?

Once they're installed, how easy is it to put the electric adjuster in and locate it in the slot?

I only ask as the original plastic ones are slightly bevelled at either end to facilitate getting the ball in ... oor err!

Started a new thread as due to circumstances unknown Steve has not been in a position to proceed with the original group buy so Greg (Sparkesandnoise) has stepped up and taken it on in his absence...

The original thread is here (now closed):

..and a little info on the actual clips...

This component is a direct replacement for the pictured plastic part (numbered 14758, and made of PBT).

It fits facelift A3/S3 8L and VW polo lights, but I don't know about others.

Just check the moulded in part number to confirm.

i have a facelift s3 and my lights seem to light up the road about 15 feet in front of the car and you cant really see a lot further including with main beam. is this likely to be caused by these plastic clips. if yes ill take some too thanks. daz

This is normally due to the motors that level the lights are not working

    Hi

My driver side used to point at the floor *sometimes*, I changed the levelling motor, recalibrated it and now works fine.

OK, so I've made a few. Anyone who has paid so far will have them in the post today. I was hoping to do it Saturday but the envelopes didn't turn up! The part has been tested for fir in a '00 polo, which is the same clip design and all looks good.

How have folks been fitting these parts, do you need to dismantle the headlight? i.e; do you have to remove the lense from the body to fit?

    Cheers,

    Mike

Yes, you do need to remove the lens. I have found that the easiest way is to remove all you can, i.e. tilt motor bulbs etc, then put the complete unit in the oven at 100C for about 10 mins. This softens the sealer that holds the lens on and makes it really simple to remove without causing damage to any parts. You can also use a hair dryer or a heat gun, but I prefer the oven approach.

When reinstalling the tilt motor don't push it straight into the new clip, you will probably break the ball off the motor, you need to slide it in from the end of the new clip. I found this easier to do before I refitted the lens, this means you can push the main internals towards the back of the light which gives you more room to play with. It’s a bit fiddly, but you only have to do it once!

Ok, when you re-assemble do you use any new sealant?

Would be good to get a guide on here on how to replace for users. If there isnt one already.. ithought it might just be a case of removing the headlight and not touching the lenses

    WHAT? No you don't.

This is the clip that the self levelling motor ball slides into right? You only need to remove the motor which takes two seconds. You will find it easier to remove the headlight from the car but you DO NOT need to split the head light apart!

Are you saying the billet ally ones are too big to fit through the hole for the levelling motor?

OK, I didn't actually try that! I have always found it easier on other units to split the lens and the cover.

Isn't undoing the screw that the broken clip is held on with really tricky when the whole of the light inner is 'loose'?

As long as you remove the head light from the car it's really easy. Yeah the inner does move a little but with the bulb access cover off you can steady it with your other hand.

Ok guys i received my alloy bling today:), ta Gregg. Right, you can fit these without pulling headlights to bits, they will fit through adjuster hole JUST. What i did was to 1st mark the adjuster on front with a pen so once inside unit you will no which way up the 'D' cutout is so it sits on perch correctly. Then you turn alloy adjuster on its side and put half of adjuster, slot side 1st through hole so that it ends up half in and half out with the slot filled by the edge of the said hole. i then used a screw driver and located it in D shaped hole and pushed inwards with firm pressure, it is tight but will go without damaging anything, it then fell into unit and i used long nose pliers to align and screw down. Took less than a minute per headlight once you have them out on bench. Unfortunately i didnt think to take any pics while doin it, maybe someone else who does it this way can take some.

Yeah, I didn't realise the clip fitted through the motor mounting hole.

Sounds like a much easier way to go!
