Mate, looks awesome! Nice colour, my monos are gloss black. Will look even better when you drop her. Got to say your paintwork is very deep. You polished her recently?
what size are the rims and tyres?
Ras... there are 205/40/17's on there at the moment.
Gotta say though, they'd look MUCH better on a white car... Kidding!

Here's my old ones (now Phoenix's rims) - same tyre, but obviously a lot lower (and in inverse colour co-ordination) - I think they rock! So much so that I've just found some 18" babies for mine!

black on silver is nice IMO, but then I am biased!
205/40 does look low but it could be the angle of the shot.

On those tyres theres about 1.5" of sidewall missing, and it just looks stupid. Geemans didnt look too bad, but only because its far too low.
Color i'm not sure on, it maybe needs to be darker, but the centrecaps need matching because they just look odd at the moment.

Ollie... they're not exactly the same dude. They've not got the centre caps like yours... and there are two missing on mine so had to order new ones from the dealer. I put new ones on Floyds... but the ones for mine are MUCH more expensive, even though they are smaller. Grrrr!

How does it look stupid?, Looks perfect....why would you have a nice set of wheels then spoil it with a great big fat ugly tyre? I suppose you have a set of 15's with a 65 profile and think it looks good haha

No!, paintwork is terrible. Its flat, scratched and dented, only thing is doesn't have is rust thankfully. I'd just given it a good wash and left it wet so it looked shiny! Thats why i wanna re-paint it so much
A4's and S4's fitted with 17" rims from the factory run 225/45 tyres. This gives an overall diameter which fills the arch nicely.
Your tyres are nearly 1.5" smaller in overall diameter, and hence look lost in the arches.
If you slam the car into the floor, and totally ruin the handling, then it doesnt look so bad, but it would still look far better with a wheel/tyre combo thats the correct size.
Ahhhhh, cunning mr fox.....white cars are awesome. My liner was white. Just a MASSIVE pain in the **** to stay on top of. Even a drive on a summers day made the white grey....good luck mate. If your anywhere near me(wycombe), i know a bod that is a GLEAMING coachworker/sprayer that would square it away for a grand. Proper job, oven, sterile room, the lot. Not some cowboy that would spray it whilst smoking a roll up drinking JD....(i.e.....me). Let me know if your interested.

You mean the driveability... not the handling. Lowering a car's centre of gravity can only improve the handling.

The term handling is quite a wide ranging term. Some people think a car thats decked into the floor and so stiff it rattles your fillings out makes a good handling car. In my view, a good handling car is one which sticks like sh1t to a blanket and doesnt have any undesired traits, such as snap oversteer.
To achieve that in a ROAD car, you need compliance in the suspension. If its sat 10mm away from the bump stops it has no compliance, because a) theres no travel and b) due to a, you need mega stiff springs to stop it bottoming out. The result of fitting megastiff springs, is that instead of the suspension absorbing bumps and keeping the tyre firmly planted on the tarmac, it skips over undulations and irregularites in the road surface, reducing overall grip. If you dont fit megastiff springs, then it bottoms out, and once its bottomed out it acts just the same as a megastiff spring.
Not to mention that if you lower it so much that the roll centre is BELOW the road surface, you'll completely shaft how the suspension responds anyway.
If i presented a pic of my A4, with its standard 16" wheels, but instead of the 205/55r16 tyres, i'd fitted a set of 195/45r16's, with the resulting huge gaps in the arch, i'm sure you wouldnt hesitate in recognising how it looks stupid. Trying to fix the wrong size tyres by lowering the car is going about it all wrong.

I didn't say that lowering a car would remove the 'stupid' factor of skinny tyres... I said that would actually improve the handling. But at the same time, if Floyd were to lower his A4, the 'stupid' factor would be diminished somewhat...
Mine DOES stick to a blanket like the proverbial rear-end waste we excrete... but in the same sentence I admit that it is a little harder than standard. I use my car A LOT for work and not once have I thought "Jesus, this is too hard and impractical" like I have with many of my other (lesser) cars.
I point you in the direction of the old and well-worn-out saying... "the world would be very boring if we all thought the same".
This is an on going debate that i was having with Siena, 'slamming' a car may fault the suspension geometry but if done correctly and if the tracking, camber etc are adjusted accordingly then there should be no real problem, again, if done correctly handling will be improved.....and looks too!
The person who does all my mechanical work is Tim from 'The Phirm'. Anyone who reads PVW magazine will know him as he does there staff cars and has a problem page in the mag, A very clever and respected man in the VAG world, so i think he should know!!
I will be getting coilovers and i will be putting it right on the floor and will be leaving the stupid tyre's on it because tractor tyre's would look **** on an A4.
I've worked in my dads bodyshop for 8 years so can do it myself! Thanks anyway though mate. Grands mega cheap for a re-spray, wouldn't even do a same colour re-spray for that!

No, I DO like the wheels and the look. My point is that "each to their own" - ie dont stress if someone else doesnt like it. Everything is down to personal preference, settings, perspectives etc.
I like the look, may hate the drive, but I doubt I'll drive it! You might hate how my car drives - who cares!? Live and let live, enjoy the variety that different taste brings!
I doubt many on here will like my A-Series powered, supercharged beach buggy (read "bath tub") - but its MY choice!

Geeman, was your rear camber way out in that old photo, or is it just an optical illusion?
I would add that IMO Audi's generally do not take well to styling additions.. The standard offering of the S4 / RS4's over the years are a fantastic combination of restrained, yet tasteful styling - rarely bettered by adding much from third parties apart from a decent wash and polish...!

Nope... camber was spot on there fella. The wheels sat perfectly straight. I have it checked regularly as I'm paranoid about tracking and camber!
The suspension geometry on an A4 is not adjustable. As a result, lowering as much as Geeman has WILL screw up the geometry, and you cant "do it correctly". Multilink suspension like that on the A4 is pretty good at staying reasonably consistent thru out its range of motion however, so it will be more correct than that much lowering on say a mk3 golf with mac struts. The handling will not be improved, because to have the car running that low you either screw up the spring rates, or it bottoms out. You will also move the roll centre and if you lower the car enough this can seriously affect the cars balance under braking and hard cornering due to the way it alters the weight transfer. When you've lowered the car so much that the suspension arms are pointing above the vertical at rest, the ONLY way you'd be getting that to handle properly is to chop the mounts off the chassis and move them up.
Tractor tyres? The factory standard size for that rim is 225/45... How exactly can that possibly be described as a tractor tyre? Many users on here have cars running the standard 17" wheels with standard sized tyres and i've never once heard them described as tractor tyres. Are you suggesting a standard S4 or 1.8TQS is fitted with tractor tyres? I'm not suggesting you fit some BFG Mud Terrains in 255/85r16 am i?

Seriously though, my car flies round bends like it's on rails, it doesn't skip & jump during heavy braking and it still rides reasonably smoothly.
I think if you actually went out in my car, you'd be pleasantly surprised. :icon_thumright:
Maybe i would! Out of interest though, do the suspension arms sit above the horizontal while at rest?
To be honest, I don't know... I've never looked. Will check later when I go outside to go to the Audi dealer to pick up my new centre caps for the monos that must be made of bloody gold!
Just to add fuel to the debate (Dubate lol.. see what I did there?) I've been in many lowered cars with dampers etc.. and 9 times out of 10 the sensibly lowered (not slammed) cars do handle better.
Obviously a 'slammed' car is style over substance but a slightly lowered and stiffened car makes sense to me if you like to drive on the limit.

Ideally id like air, so i can 'weed' it at shows, but up sensibly for road use, but im sure the cost of air far outways me doing that!
