i fully intend to keep my s3, but i want something a bit mad like a rx7, but only want it for the weekends!! anyone no where to get a cheap one from, nothing over £4000 really, can be a bit of a project!! Anyone got any experience with them at all?!!

hi me again ... you do have to have deep pocket withthem as they are prone to braking dowm ... the imports are 1.3 engine whilie the uk models are 2.8 ?? i think dont quote me but they are they same engine just different regulations over there... they are great fun cars hight power outputs to if ya like playing under the hood... good choice for a fun car ... im getting an s14 for track drifting ...motorsport is great !! :)

they need an engine rebuild every 40000 miles or so so keep that in mind if you're going to get one

Just so you know £4k would get you a good Mr2 turbo(260bhp easily attainable) or for something that wont try and kill you in the damp a celica gt4 205 (very similar engine, similar power increases possible)

MR2 turbo ... people killer lol they love firlds... posts... walls lol... depends on what ya type of car ya want ...that mony will also get you and evo 2... great cars and very powerfull brill drive

Lol yeah wanted to get rear wheel this time! so celica's out the window! just wanted something for drifting and being loud and fast, might look at supras as well but rexs look soo good! especially in black!

another drift fan ... ah yeah!! well how bout a s13 they are theh best drift car and highly tuneable !! also look at nissan 300zx maybe or bmw ??

I'd spend a couple of grand on a Fiat Coupe turbo.

Didn't see the drift bit!!!

That's the Fiat out then.

You wouldnt get a supra turbo for that i dont think, 200sx's very good for that type of thing and the newer ones also look quite nice too.

I'd go for one of them if you want a FR layout.

300zx's cost a fortune to run but they're amazing fun, and the mr2's only kill you if you drive like a **** in the rain, or just cant drive(i've got one lol)

s14 ... s14 ... s14... its a 200sx if ya wondering what im raving about the s2 is the really old one then the s13 which are great fun but prone to a lot of rust underneath then the s14 tha fav can gte a nice one for £4000 then the s15.... wow but ya talking 3 times ya budget .... :)

lol, i was thinking a 200sx but can you really tune them like a rx? 300zx would be good but they are massive! + rx has cheap tax as it's only classed as a 1.3!

can you tunr them hell yeah and parts are not that expensive get a jap mag like banzi and have a peek you will also get some inspiration for other cars in th efor sale bit its out be a good £4 investment chick

What about an 944 turbo, ive got one im converting into a road legal track car. £4000 should buy you a half decent one and there is loads of scope for tuning them.

Don't forget the S14a touring, better front end (headlamps) and side skirts. Rubbish interior but great to drive and you'll get a good one for around 4k. I'd rather have one of those as opposed to an RX7...just an opinion though!

I like the S15 but again, they're rubbish inside and for 12k you have a lot of other options!

I think that you will find that the rotary engine is 1.3 where ever in the world you buy an RX7, t's a 1.3 on the logbook anyway, but thay all have a twin rotor(I've been told), so they are apparently running a 2.6 displacement??
Definitely a weekend car these, heavy on the juice and needs a rebuild after approx. 50k miles due to the tips on the ends of the rotor wearing out!

If you want a 200 sx my cousin has a business that specialises in dismantling them.

He's based in Coventry.

Hi edward. I currently own an R32 skyline GTR as my weekend car and Its the dogs danglies. You can get them from as little as £5000 for a standard spec, or between £8,000 and £10,000 for one thats running around 600 horses.
My one is currently running 450bhp and the power is awesome. Iv driven a DB9, ferrari, GT3 and others, but the buzz of "jap" power is something else.
As far as an RX7 goes, Id stay well away. Iv owned imprezas, a Supra, 300zx 200sx s13 and s14, but stayed clear from the rotary engined car. Simply due to vast amount of problems due to very mild tuning, lack of rotary engine mechanics, servicing intervals, and fuel/oil consumption, noisy engine.
for drifting, it would have to be the s13 or s14. Many people go for s13 as it has a steel block in comparison to the aluminium block found in the later models, and parts are easily available. the s13 has a ca18det engine, and has a power of 167 BHP. This can safely be increased by 80bhp on standard internals, with the addition of a stage1 chip, induction kit, decat straight through exhaust, uprated fuel pump and iridium plugs.
The s14 has 198bhp, and similiar gains can be achieved with stage 1 parts.

as for a skyline, It has to be a GTR model with the legendery Rb26 engine. its a 2.6 litre engine with twin garret turbos. This engine can handle upto around 450bhp on standard internals. The downside would be the cost of parts, and rarity of used parts. expensive aftermarket upgrades.
nevertheless, I can guarantee, theres not many cars below £10k which drive and handle like the GTR skyline.
For more info, check out www.gtr.co.uk (hope the moderators dont mind)
The have a great 'for sale' section too

All the best

Good choice - mate of mine had a track-day converted one with boost controller. Old school turbo (i.e. noticeable lag), but great fun. He sold it on as he said it was too scary for him and now has a Honda CRX.

I can second that, they have really good handling due to the 50/50 weight distribution but can be a bit brutal in the wet if you dont know what you are doing !!!

Engine is in the boot, bet that handles well lol.
I was gonna say it sounds like a superbike, but it should seeing as its got a fireblade exhaust

my mate had a black rx7 last year, nice toy. j plate import restricted to 120 mph , 1.3 rotary , insured as a 1.3 also, but as u know 2.6, bought in london for around 7.5k. cost him 3oo bucks to drive it up here inverness area. was good fun to drive, crap in wet though, back end everywhere, good fun though.was warned about the "tips" on the engine 4k repair bill when they go . and common seemingly? garages up here would supply him with parts but wouldnt touch the car, he sold it to a 19 year old student who got money left to him by his granny , guy got caught speeding on way home, done for no tax and then got a puncture, comes in threes .lol, but aye go buy the hog, we all need our toys ! :rockwoot:
