    Hi Gents and Ladies =D

Im new to the forum and would like a honest opinion from ppl on the choice of car im thinking to get as per title. I currently drive a 320D (163) remapped to 195bhp which is brill fun and more than enough power for me but i fancy a change now having driven BMWs for the past 4 cars! the A4 has always caught my eye and im in the middle of considering the above options all in the s-line form.

Generally speaking i do about 10-14k miles a year...lots of mix driving = 70% motorway and 30% town. Have budget of 16k to play with.

After some research I have come up with the following pros and cons of each and would like some input on my choices...or even better...recommend the right one for me! hehe x

    2.0 TFSI
+ This was the model I really wanted as it was a petrol and provides plenty of punch
+ Nice petrol sound system which i really miss =)
+ MPG is approx 35mpg combined? which seems okay! but correct me if im wrong
    - Reading horror stories about the oil consumption which has really worried me...not sure if this is a common fault? but has got me really scared about this engine.

    2.0TDI (143)
+ Plenty of choice within my budget
    + Combined MPG is 45??
    - diesel sound system
    - worried is too slow compared to my 320D - i know there is the option of remap to 175bhp but still worried its not enough hehe...opinions???

    2.0TDI (170)
    + similar power to mine
    - mpg readings are like 35mpg from what i read so is pretty low.
    - diesel sound system
    - very rare in the used market

    2.7 TDI
+ very nice output of power at 190bhp
+ twin exhaust at the back looks lovely!
    - very rare on the used market
    - mpg is low 30mpg ive been told?

so, this is what ive found...any input or comments will help me make a choice! thanks all

    Miss Cat xxx

p.s i really like the milano red one! matches my shoes so much better wahhahahahahah xxx

Welcome to the forum, in regards to average mpg stated by the manufacturers it is a lie!
Try reducing it by 15-20% to get a real world figure.

If I had the choice again I would choose a 2.0 Tfsi and remap to get something around 265bhp and plenty of torque!

Have you decided between a b8 or b8.5?

Am sure you will get plenty of help here :)

Hello and Welcome to Audi-Sport.Net :)
I have the 2.0TFSI in my A4 Limited Edition Dynamik.
It is a good engine and pulls strong but it does use oil yes. It doesn't use a massive amount but it does use quite abit.
The more round town driving and higher revving you do the more it will use. The more motorway driving you do the less it will use.
What do you think of this one ? Audi A4 2.0T FSI Quattro Dynamik 4dr [Start Stop]
That is a brilliant buy :icon_thumright:
Its called a Dynamik, basically in 2011 they made a limited edition and called it the Dynamik. It has the 19" Black & Silver Diamond cut hollow spoke wheels, Side body-kit, Rear diffusers, front splitter, rear lip spoiler and lowered by 20mm.
If you want anymore info on the Dynamik drop me a pm :)

Hello and welcome. Have you ruled out the 3.0 V6 TDI (245bhp)?

Of all the options you stated, I wouldn't take the 2.0 TDI (143). My partner has one in a B7 Passat and it's hard work sometimes and I don't ever recall anyone saying they get expected mpg.

I'd probably go with the petrol, what with the GTI pedigree and all that! I moved to a petrol (albeit a 3.0) from a decade of diesels and I love the smoothness of it, as well as the sound and near instant heat on cold mornings (But the 3.0 V6 TDI (245bhp) sounds pretty cool too!)
I can recommend S Tronic transmission too.

    Good luck with your search!

Thats true, don't forget the 3.0TDI, beautiful smooth powerful engine.
The 7 speed S-Tronic is also great, available in the 2.0TFSI too.

My B8 170PS S-Line does a lot better than 35mpg. I average 45-50mpg to work and back which is 60/40 motorway/town and on a long motorway run see 50+mpg depending on where I set the cruise. These are admittedly all DIS computer readings.

Tank to tank I manage circa 600 miles which on a fill up of 60 litres is 45mpg.

    I agree it's difficult finding a well spec'd 170PS.

Hey all thanks for the quick response!! Lovely forum of ppl ! Feel very welcome already hehe x

Ummmm I would love the 3.0tdi but Unfortunately on a 16k budget and wanting a s line won't fall into the bracket :( this also applies to the 8.5 I think and also the lovely dynamique!! The white one is gorgeous !! But can't afford it..... :(

Ideally I want a Milano red or Ibis white :) hmmmm I see everyone is recommending the petrol tfsi....the oil issue really scares me though having read the whole rebuilds etc...

To the tfsi owners: would u still buy ur tfsi even with this knowledge?? Does it not scare you?

Yes I'm really struggling to find a well spec 170 s line in the colour I want as well hence I am beginning to think of the 143 but worried that be a bad decision as I'm so use to the power of my 320d which is returning near 200bhp

Am so confused what I should do :(

Hi Miss Cat and again welcome to the ASN forum, here's my 2.0 Tfsi (211), excellent motor, it uses around 1 litre of oil every 1700-2k miles or so-

    RED RED RED!

I don't know anything about the TFSI oil thing, but I wonder if there's an indicator or test you can do when viewing a car?

There has been a few issues with the oil on these cars i suppose, it doesn't really scare me as i just top it up when it needs it. I have a 4l container of Castrol 5W-30 in the house and a spare 1 litre bottle in the boot under the spare wheel just incase.
Dont let the oil issue put you off buying one though, i wouldn't.
You may get a good deal on the Dynamik you never know, Find out how much your Part ex is and see if they will knock you anything off it and you might be surprised :)

My 2.0TFSI Quattro was 3 years old/28500 miles the other day.
The only problem i have had with it engine wise was a coil pack which failed at 26000.
And a clutch go at 27000 but that was my fault because of the high torque of the remap.

    How about this ? Audi A4 2.0T FSI S Line 4dr

What kind of milage are you looking for where abouts in the country?

Here's an IBIS white s-line for 17K from approved audi. Having recently bought approved used I can't recommend enough what you get with all the prechecks and warranty cover. Imaging paying a couple of grand less and getting a donkey that costs you twice as much to fix....

Hi Benjie, I'm not sure that's average but certainly there are horror stories of 400-600 miles per litre, mines has 36k on the clock and drives superb, as with all high end motors these days there seems to be at least one fault or another, unfortunately.

Had the motor since January, other than the litre of oil over 1700ish miles can't fault it tbh

You are right there. That looks a good car apart from the cheap tyres it sits on :keule:

I can get mid 30's out of the 2.0TFSI if you take it easy on a 10 mile trip round town.

    Here ya go;

    Vehicle View - Audi A4 2.0 T FSI (211 PS) quattro S-Line Special Edn - Stratford-upon-Avon

Find an extra 1k and make them a cheeky offer :D

Misano Red (which is ofcourse the best colour), s-line, heated seats, full leather, Nav, B&O sound, 19in 7 spokes, an 40k miles. All in all a pretty good deal.

Please note I am not a fanancial advisor and I am not regulated by the FSA, so don't take any notice about my suggestion of stretching you budget, but you do get what you pay for.

If you go with the 2.0TSFI check oil use. 2009 & 2010 had a problem with excessive oil consumption. The fix is new pistons and rings. One fixed the engine is great. Horror stories at audizine.com. My 2009 TSFI was fixed at 45,000 miles and now uses no oil between oil services. Now at 102,000 miles. Good Luck.

Yep just top it up when it needs it :)
And I got the clutch & flywheel done for £800
Audi were after charging me £1900 but you can already guess my response to this :')
But I should of know really, the torque of the high toque and power remap killed it off.
I like both the white and the red to be honest. And it's misano red btw ;)

this is my main concern.....how much did it cost you to 'fix'? my budget means i be getting a 09/10 TFSI so it hits that model =/ im just worried its a very common thing and every model will eventually have to get the 'fix' done

did u map yours to get the 265bhp return? ive been looking at the revo remaps...looks decent...but if it means it will result in a new clutch then thats quite worrying hahahha..

Think i just worry too much hahaha

Yep Revo remap to 305 bhp it were. The map lasted about 23000 until the clutch went. The car is back to stock now.
Suppose you could get an updated clutch but it depends on if you are into modding like that or not. If I could turn back the clock I would of got an easy power and torque custom remap done on the rolling road to about 250bhp.
I understand, you should be worried when buying a car because it is a lot of money so I don't blame you.
My dynamik is brilliant red, I will pm you tomorrow some pictures if you wish.

I agree here, having owned a 143tdi and 177tdi I never saw less than 44mpg in either, and that was normal driving i.e, wasn't worried about fuel consumption so a real mix of booting it about and average driving.

Ignore the brochures, any dealer will openly tell you the figures are bit far fetched shall we say...... they are recorded in a "lab" environment under the most optimum conditions to return the best possible figures, none of which are actually achievable in the real world, so take off about 20-30% as someone else has said and you're about there in most cases.

It's not always about the bhp, depends on the torque aswell.... you can have a low hp high torque car and feel like you're sitting in a rocket :)

    bhp is the end destination
torque is how you get there

All comes down to how important MPG is to you personally. If you can afford the fuel then go for the petrol.

Mid 30's is a bit poor for only 211PS output though.

If I were personally doing 12k+ miles I'd be going diesel. The 170PS when Revo'd hit 210bhp 320lb/ft.

That's quite interesting actually, never actually thought about it enough to do any research.....
This could explain why the car I just got rid of (yes feel free to rip into me here, I deserve it) Focus Zetec-S 182 seemed slow!? I even took it into Ford for them to test as I was convinced something wasnt right, you had to rev the balls out of it and it just didnt feel like a 182! You have now inadvertently answered that question

lol, that's what happens when a girlie posts :-D

the Black Widow (2.0 TFSI) uses about a litre of oil around mebbes 1200~1500 miles from my records, i was told that was about normal for that engine and should bed in/reduce later. only done 21k miles in her so far.
