Once I had my new clutch in there was still a noise in the car, slightly spirited acceleration would result in a knock/drumming on the floor of the car but it seemed closer to the gearbox end than the centre driveshaft support that I had always suspected was the culprit.
I decided to change the gearbox support because when I got the car the bolt for it was missing altogether, I put another bolt in but it was never right. When I removed the old gearbox mount I noticed that there was a piece missing, the large flat washer that sits on top of the rubber bushing. I bolted the new mounting on and now have a quiet and smooth running car once more.
It really does make me wonder about the previous keeper, fortunately I got the car cheap as it had "a few problems" now that's the last of them sorted, I can really begin to enjoy driving the car
This is the gearbox mount I bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262590436820?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
