For starters you need a 17, 13 and 10mm Allen key sockets and a syringe or 2.

Remember make sure u can undo the fill plug before draining it all ;-)

I would get underneath and have a look as mine didn't need that eBay toolU can drain the front diff too as it shares oil with the gearbox, so ur looking for drain and fill on the gearbox and rear diff and also the drain for the front diffI have photos at home I can put up when I get back on Thursday, I'm in London till then and using my phone

17mm hex for rear diff (drain & fill are same size)
I needed the VAG tool for the gearbox (2003 S3), plus what I remember was 12mm hex for transmission drain I think.

    Old thread bump!

I went to change my rear diff oil at the weekend, had a 17mm allen key, it was too big for drain/filler. Any other sizes used on these??

^^ Was just crusty plugs, got in there with a screwdriver and scraped away the crud and 17mm fitted, undone filler first, just in case, then drain, then about 1/2 cup of dirty oil drained out! Rigged up a piece of hose and funnel and dropped in 1 litre of fresh, took about 30 mins altogether.
