Gaaaaah - the bonnet release cables snapped!

Right at the mechanism, never gave any sign of stiffness, just broke at the nipple (bonnet end) the other night as I had opened it to mess about wi the boost pipes.....now how the hell am I gonna get in to open it for cable replacement? Any secret tips (send by pm if ya like to prevent giving the wee chavs ammo for stealing stuff) but I really need in there a lot and cant see an easy (or minimal damage) way to get to it now its closed again

I tried tying a cable tie to the bit the nipple pulls on but it couldnt pull hard enough and broke immediately...and dont wanna butcher the grille to get access so i am sure there must be some where on the grille that something can be used to release the catch, if you knew where to poke...

prising the grill out helps, not easy but it can be done if you fashion a couple of large hook tool and gently pop it out

nice one lads, bit of a ****** this - need to clean the turbo and intake very soon and thats the second ****** b5 cable thats broke on me but the old one did it at the handle end so a pair of molegrips sufficed inside as a handle...lol

should get one at specialist cars in kirkcaldy at the weekend, theyre vw but no doubt the audi one will have a counterpart.

so, got the grille off, still canny open the damn thing, can someone please post a pic o the bonnet mechanism so I can visualise where to push? cheers

While playign with my cheap, relaiable DD/workhorse ;-) I took a couple of pics for you, no idea if they'll be any use but once uploaded I'll post them here for you.

ah, thanks mate, I got it at last. After removing the undertray, I could see a square tab under the lock, pushed up on it with a metal tube, and CLINK it opened :woot:
