Hi Steve, I'm running the g60 flywheel and VR6 clutch in my A3, and it's brilliant.

The standard G60 flywheel weighs 10kg, which is already lighter than the dual mass standard flywheel, and would make a good difference.

Mine has been lightened down to 6kg, and it's absolutely great.

I'm using the LUK VR6 clutch kit, which mates directly to the g60 flywheel, and is rated to just over 300lbft.

You also need the g60/ABF flywheel bolts, as the standard ones are the wrong length.

THe flywheel you need is often refered to as G60, but it's also the same as that fitted to the ABF engine, which is the 2.0 16v fitted to the mk3 golf gti.

All in all, it's super cheap to do, around £100 for the flywheel brand new, £100 for the clutch kit, and I paid £100 to have it all lightened and balanced.

The difference is great too, it picks up a LOT faster and feels way more responsive. it's also a really nice pedal feel, and not bitey at all.

not got any part numbers dude, they're not really needed.

Walk into a VW dealer and ask for an ABF flywheel and bolts

then walk into GSF and ask for a clutch kit for a golf VR6.

    job done :)

Would this be of any benefit on a 1.6 A3 or a waste of time and money?

no, sadly it won't fit the S3 box I'm afraid!

Steve: I'd really look into getting it lightened if I were you!

it makes such a big difference, with no downsides at all

The 6 Speed cars (A3/S3) have a 240mm clutch/ flywheel where as the G60 combo is only 228mm so will not work

if its from a ABF then it will fit. you can use a G60 or a ABF flywheel but not a VR6 one (they have a different blt pattern)

G60 is the engine used in a Golf Mk2 G60 (suprisingly) and also in a g60 passat and anything else g60 powered

ABF is the engine code from a Golf Mk3 16v GTI and again its used in a Passat and also some Ibiza's (anything mid 90s FWD VAG group 2.0 16v basically)
