    From the Urban Dictionary

    fanboy
    1. A person who is completely loyal to a game or company reguardless of if they suck or not.
    2. A pathetic insult often used by fanboys themselves to try and put down people who don't like whatever it is they like.

    D'oh! Didn't refresh before posting

The whole fanboy notion is ridiculous and stupid. I read a comment on another thread where someone who liked a particular smart phone, and wanted it, didn't get one because he feared being thought of as a fanboy.

    What?!

    So in summary:

    1. Quattro is far superior
    2. DazAuto has Quattro envy.

Think that just about covers it.

Agree: Quattro has far superior traction and handling. But no better stopping power.

How exactly do you work out from my posts that I have Quattro envy?

I'm just researching the pros and cons.

Pros - better traction, better handling.

Cons - 40 litre less boot space, 7-8% heavier, same or worse braking distance.

    Does that about cover it?

Those are my summer tyres. They are very good. Going to try Conti next. Looks they have better wet handling/stopping which is important to me.

The video is not relevant because there are 2 different cars, which behave different. This is a relevant video: Winter Tyres or 4x4: which is best? - Auto Express - YouTube worth mentioning it's not a permanent 4x4. It powers the back when the front is slipping. A permanent traction like quattro WILL behave better.

So we all agree that for your average driver quattro is best and it you are a spot on driver as most on here will be otherwise they wouldnt be on here or any other car forum for that matter, fwd is good enough? But in my mind why struggle or have the nagging doubt you may not get where you are going.Plus you arent going to get the tortured fwd front diff that your average driver is going to push until it stops/breaks, you all must have either seen this every time it snows or done it yourself?Little comparison, I own and drive 2 old land rovers, one is part time 4wd other full time 4wd, the part time one will often spin up a wheel coming out of a damp roundabout, the full time 4wd one never ever does this, same engines, tyres etc, same off road, in 2wd hit a hole or bump, bounce goes the wheel, engine revs rise wheel spins up, wheel hits floor and snaps half shaft, i really enjoyed that day!

Moot point eh? You need to contact Audi and tell them they got it all wrong! They wasted a lot of time and effort reducing the weight of their A3 by 80kg. They say that will help improve the performance and handling of their cars. You need to contact Audi and tell them they actually need to carefully distribute 105kg to their A3. Tell them the 80kg reduction is a moot point and will have no effect on the performance and handling!

Eh? Did you know that most cars in countries with weather far worse than ours are FWD? What exactly does the average driver need Quattro for?

Have you watched any of the videos posted here?

About 10 years ago I was driving my old Ford Puma home. The Puma weighed about 1000kg and had Continental Premium Contact 2 tyres. I was driving down a gently sloping hill with the road covered in about 2 inches of fresh powder snow. At the bottom of the hill was a gritted A road. I was going very slowly. About halfway down the hill I decided to brake. Nothing happened. The A road was about 100 meters in front of me. I tried engine braking. Nothing. Tapping the brakes. Nothing. I was going so slow that a few feet after my tyres touched the gritted A road my car stopped. Luckily it was late and there were no cars, vans or lorries on the road or I would have had a very serious accident.

How would having a 2 ton vehicle with 4 wheel drive (disco) have helped me in the above situation? My dad tells he his disco is rubbish in snow. Because it is heavy and he buys the cheapest tyres.

I have no nagging doubts about my cars ability in the snow. I have winter tyres. I am buying my wife a new A3. If I thought for one second that she would be any safer in a Quattro in the winter, then I would buy her one. I will be getting her 4 winter tyres so she does not get stuck on the ungritted roads round where we live.

There were so many BMWs and Mercedes in Munich last Christmas - you'd nearly think they were made in Germany. Oh wait...:uhm:

The temperature was -20C. I don't think they even bother trying to grit the roads. IIRC gritted roads freeze below -7C.

Funny enough I didn't notice any BMW or Mercedes in Munich unable to move on the roads covered in compacted snow.

They must just sent the BMWs and Mercedes that don't work on snow and ice over to the UK. Sneaky Germans:uhm:

Ze Germans would probably be laughing their heads off at some of the posts here, "Quattro for ze vinter... why?" , "So we can go fast on snow and ice.", "Ahhh... you British are crazy!" , "No, no, you really need 4 wheel drive for winter!", "Ze propaganda has worked. Some of ze British are completely fooled! Now v can sell zem more Quattro's."

We should settle this the Top Gear way...a race...on snow...with winter tyres...LOLI mean, what were Audi thinking with this commercial...should of just advertised a FWD A3 with winter tyres.http://youtu.be/IGmCKxTgSrIPoint being, as safety was mentioned quattro is most definitely safer. It's all good saying the FWD can stop alot sooner being lighter blah blah blah, but when's the last time you drove all the way to your destination in a straight line?

Daz - one week to think up a comeback to my quip and you let me down like that. Son, I am dissapointed.

Top and bottom of it, Quattro's are a much nicer car to drive, but you would be crazy to buy one because you may potentially get one week of snow a year.

You are still wrong on braking distances by the way, the only way a 4wd would take longer to stop than a comparable 2wd is if both drivers put thier foot on the clutch then brakes, your formula doesn't take into account any braking that may be done through the transmission/engine.

Actually, I think it's about time everyone stopped trying to force-feed their opinion onto everyone else and instead agree that everyone had given their opinions, they are not all the same, and no one is under any obligation to adopt someone else's opinion.

    Good post.

But this is not about opinions this is about facts.

Quatttro is excellent. It will help me go fast in all conditions.

But in winter, winter tyres are safer! Read the topic heading!

I think 4 videos have been provided that demonstrate this fact!

Where are all the videos showing how SUPERIOR Quattro is vs winter tyres in winter?

Quattro with winter tyres is the same as a ham and cheese sandwich; could just eat the bread on it's own, could have ham no cheese on the bread, could have cheese no ham on the bread... but combine them .

Look on the bright side at least its not a vauxhall:whistle2:
Plus i dont think anyone apart from you has mentioned the need to go faster in the snow, Im to lazy to go back and read the whole thread again just to check

Fitted a full set of winter tyres to the quattro last weekend.

Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme for those who are interested (225/40/R18). Only that and the Michelin's meet the correct speed rating for my vehicle in the winter tyre range.

    Just saying...:footy:
