Fuel smell

Is there a petrol tank vent somewhere on the rear of the A3.... got out of my car tonight and there was a strong smell of petrol that i've never had before.... i'll have a look for leaks tomorrow... anywhere i need to be looking that are common faults ???

Theres a fuel filter a bit bigger than a can under the car just in front of the rear wheel on the drivers side, could check there for a leak....

I had a serious fuel leak. It came down to a faulty gravity valve in the tank. The valve left it self stayed open so was spewing out fuel from the filler cap area due to the massive pressure build up behind it.

Areas to check -

filler cap
behind the right wheel archliner
underneath rear bumper
fuel filter

The valve cost @ £3.00

However it meant a fuel tank out job and 4-5 hours of Audi priced labour...ouch.

Hopefully your's is just a fuel filter change job!
