One month out of warrenty and the fuel gauge has decided to die, needle is on zero, DIS is displaying Zero and fuel indicator is on.

Anyone with any experiance with this fault, is it the sender unit or the cluster. I'm thinking the sender unit seeing as i have all 3 indications and what cost will this be to repair?

do you have vagcom or access? You can check how many litres are left in your tank using it on the cluster info module. This could ascertain if it is the sender or the display. The sender is in the tank IIRC

Mine did this once - but it sorted itself out the next time I filled the tank.

Same here - mine went weird when I let tank get low (I normally refuel at 1/4) and needle went full-empty-full-1/2-full-empty.
After refueling it that time it hasn't done it since, but I also haven't let it get that low.
I put it down to the sender getting crap on it or something, but who knows.

mine reads empty for 10 min ish after been stood overnight
then slowly creeps up towards some kind of reading
it has also gone 1/4 tank out on the reading after a minute
or so of rapid movement/ flickering pointer must have turned
    a bit on its
warning light now goes out just past the 1/4 tank mark
