I'm seriously considering trading in my 2.0 FSi for a 2.0 TFSi.
Looking around I should be able to part-ex mine plus £3.5k-£4k and get a 55 or 06 plate.

What I want to know is are they as troublesome as the TDI's???
Reading on here there doesn't seem to be anywhere near as many problems as the diesel. But then that might be just because they aren't as common.

    Thoughts anyone???
    Generally reliable?
    Any known problems??
    A worthwhile purchase???

    Cheers :icon_thumright:

PS: I don't do many miles and basically don't want a diesel.

Is your a manual or DSG??

The one i'm looking at is a DSG. Not too sure about losing a clutch pedal though. The longest I've spent without one is a week!!

Mine is manual. I didnt fancy a DSG.

Mine is a 55plate, and only has 25k on the clock.

I had this engine in my last car (MKV Gti) and its very good, but an absolute peach with REVO Stage 1:icon_thumright:
Just think, 100bhp more than you have now? whats to think about?
    Go and spend some money.
    Good luck

    Seriously considering spending the money!:icon_thumright:

Thing is.... turbos scare the living daylights out of me!! :sadlike:
I'd be living in constant fear that it'll pop.

Do the TFSi's use the same turbo as the TDi's??? Because, by many accounts, they always seem to blow up.

The car i'm after has done 45k (how long on average does a turbo last??), approaching 4 years old, DSG, Sport trim, one owner, clean conditions, etc blah etc.
Dealer wants a shade under £11k for it.

    Sound worth it???

    That's comforting news :icon_thumright:

To be honest I'm not "officially" in the market for a TFSI. This urge to get one only surfaced at the weekend when browsing the web and seeing one on the website of the dealer I bought my current A3 from a year ago.
I started to do the math and thought if he'll do me a part-ex at the level I bought my car from him (in the year I've owned it the condition is the same, 6k more miles but new cambelt/waterpump/engine mounts/service) then it might be worth paying 3.5 grand for a lot more motoring enjoyment in a car 3 years newer.

Funny enough he also has a Mk5 GTI for a little less wonga than the TFSI. £500 less I think.
It looks nice and the spec is better (i.e. satnav, full leathers) but it's higher on the mileage and half a year older.
I considered it for a second, but having only been in the audi stable for a year I'm not quite ready to leave yet. I'm enjoying the "grown-up-ness" of Audi, having driven in 206 GTi for the years before.

Other than turbo reliability, the only other thing that bothers me is that fact that this TFSI is DSG. Not sure I want to switch from manual. I guess a test drive will help me with that one a bit.

    Decisions!!!

2.0 TFSI with Full Milltek Turbo back, Intake and a map, your looking on 270bhp and 290ft-lb, it'll drive superbly well and be quicker than a stock S3.

Baby steps first. But eventually..... :eyebrows:

Is your car DSG? I know it's a TDI, but just wondering how people get on with the auto box.

Yep, my car is DSG. I absolutley LOVE the gearbox its great, I haven't had the DSG software done as mines a diesel so its not a high revver, but apparently the software makes the gearbox alot better drive as well as allowing you to have FULL control in manual mode. Will have a think, but not a priority for me right now.

    Alright mate,

Have the 2.0T engine in my 2006 Sportback. I don't do too many miles either and I bought mine about 18 months ago as at the price it was advertised at, it was a bargain.

Mileage wise, its on 21,000. It has the manual gearbox and the only thing to have gone wrong with it was the rear washer jet, which got fixed under warranty. Mine sees between 280 - 310 miles to a tank of V-Power.

Cracking engine and I can't fault mine.

If you look after the turbo by allowing it to cool down before switching off after a major thrash you should be fine. Also ensure that the car has regular oil changes using excellent quality oil.
In addition to my S3 we have a Mk IV GTi 1.8T that we bought new in 1998. No turbo problems so far.

I'm worrying more about how the previous owner(s) treated it. Guess there's no real way to know so just take a chance.

How much did you guys with 2.0 TFSI's pay for yours??? If you don't mind me asking.

The one I'm going for is a Sport for just under £11k. Seen a few S-Lines but they have been quite a bit over £12k, more than I want to spend really.
Probably could find cheaper if I go private but I want to part ex mine and don't want to muck about selling it.

Back in October 2008 I paid £9900 for a 06 plate Audi Sportback 2.0T Sport with FMDSH and 13,100 miles on the clock from a Volkswagen main dealer.

It was due to end on a lease contract or something and due to the recession and rising petrol prices the garage just wanted rid of it. Car checked out fine, no previous accidents or anything like that. So I think sometimes you can get a bargain.

    Christ... That is cheap!!

Doubt I'll be lucky enough to find something like that though. Private maybe, not from a dealer though.

This price was the straight price that the dealer wanted for it as well. Never traded my old car or anything against it.

Good luck if you decide to go for a 2.0T. Its a great car, great engine and very reliable. I'm sure you'll love it mate.

Hello mate. I've got a 2.0TFSI on an 07 plate, which has done about 59k. Mostly motorway miles from the guy who owned it from new before I bought it, but now my Mrs uses it for work everyday (driving it carefully) and gets decent mpg, then I use it at the weekends for fun! I've got all the history and receipts and can't see that anything major has gone wrong or been replaced in that time. I've only had it around 5-6 months but also no trouble in that time. It's a cracking engine and a great drive. Do it!

    Thanks for the info mate!

Well.... I've done it!!!! Just got back from the dealers.
    He's taking my car as part-ex (2003 2.0 FSi Sport) plus £3k.
I'm happy with the deal... I think!? lol

Going to collect early next week.
