Hauled a broken Blaupunkt CD/Tuner out of a friend's Astra and chucked in a new JVC CD/Tuner,using the harness connectors that were there already.

Problem is,the JVC won't hold it's settings when the ignition is switched off, although it works fine when the ignition is on.

I'm guessing the harness connector that was already there doesn't have the 'permanent live' that the JVC requires.

Will it just be a case of buying another harness adaptor from Halfords ????

The HU wouldn't work at all if it didn't have both power sources present.
It just means that the perm live & ignition live are round the wrong wayfor the JVC HU, just swap them over either on the Astra's loom or if you don't want to cut the OEM wiring you'll need to cut the JVC loom if you can or buy a male and female power ISO adapter and join them together with the yellow & red wires crossed. This then will sit between the HU and the Vauxhall loom.

    Cheers
Presumably, one of those tenner(ish) harness adaptors from Halfords would have them the right way round though ?
They vary depnding on head unit used and car,so they must take account of things like this ?
Cutting/joining wires is not something my friend is going to like.

I wouldn't presume anything, but at least you can do the mod on the adapter rather than the cars wiring.

Some head units have a switch on them (usually on the top) which will reverse the connections so maybe worth checking.

    Cheers for the advice.
The yellow and red were already fitted with male/female bullet connectors,so swapping them over was a piece of proverbial.
It's now working perfectly and you saved my mate a tenner !

    Top notch.
