    Hey everyone,

Just as the title suggests, how does one go about changing the fog light bulbs? I have gone for the whole white/blue light thing at the mo and i really wanted to change the fog lights so they can match too..... The orangey yellow thing they do at the mo just isn't cutting it! Any help would be really appreciated!!

    The proceedure is as follows:

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
Turn light switch to “0” position.

Release fasteners -arrows- using a screwdriver and detach air intake grille from bottom of bumper.

    illustration 1

    Screw out bolts -arrows

    illustration 2

Take fog light housing out of bumper.
    Unplug electrical connector.
Release retainer tabs -arrows- and detach cover.
    Unplug connectors -2-.
Disengage spring clip -1- and take bulb out of housing.

Both the instructions and the illustrations come from a copy of ELSAWIN, which is the Audi/VW electronic workshop manual that dealers use. I purchased a copy on eBay some months ago. There are copies currently for sale on eBay for around £8-10. It comes on around 4 DVDs for loading into Windows on a pc.

Strictly they are backup copies and by rights your should have a fully licenced version but if you are only going to use for for personal use and not for any commercial use.....

If you do think of getting a copy make sure it's not an American version as that does not cover all the A3 models and make sure it's a version that covers the year of you car.

It's basically quite easy to set up and is absolutely full of usefull information and diagrams covering almost everthing on the car.

    Thanks Dave, nice one.

Are there separate ones on the Sportback available do you know or are the A3 ones all the same?

Do you have to have one that refers to the year your car was made then rather than one that covers all 8P A3s?

The copy I have covers all Audis made up to 2005. It's all in the same program and you just select the model and year of manufacture each time you go into the package and it shows all the information relating to that particular model. Some is obviously common to serveral models. My copy certainly covers both the 3-door and the Sportback.

Make sure your computer supports the correct resolution required though. My new laptop did not, and so couldn't get this to run.

What an excellent response, best I've ever seen.

Are the lenses glass? I was wondering if they would take a few more watts?

Does anyone have any web space which you could upload the DVD to so people could download it - for personal use? Of course we'd buy you a pint and worship you forever...

The bulbs i put in are rated at 80w..... the standard Audi ones are 55w so only a 25w increase which would equal to a 2amp more being drained from the battery..... How much more heat that produces im not sure.... Anyone one know how to work that one out???
The light coming from them does feel hot though.....

Be careful with making 'copywrite' information available for down-load through a forum. I think that another forum ran into trouble with Audi/VW for doing just that some time ago.

Don't know any more but I know all the information about how to obtain 'illegal' copies had to be removed. It's one thing for an individual to obtain a copy for themselves but if we start making illegal copies available for download through information on the forum we may run into trouble. These are illegal copies after all. The information is currently 'lost' under the forum heading 'Re:Fog lights...... Changing the bulbs..." Perhaps better to use PMs rather than the open forum for further requests or information.

    Just a thought....
