    Hi,

I have an A3 (2013) SB TDI Quattro, Sline, and I'm looking into changing the standard halogen bulbs in the fogs with xenon match bulbs. Have anyone here with the 8V (sline) changed their bulbs?

I'm pretty sure s-line have different bulbs (probably H8) in the fogs compared to non-sline, but not 100% sure.

What I'm asking you guys for:

    - if you have changed your fog light bulbs, was it easy, and how?
    - Which type of bulbs is the correct ones for 8V sline?

    Btw,

Extremely satisfied with the new 8V sportback :)

    thanks

I use the same sort on my T5 as the DRL's, gives a nice, white light.

Shouldnt be a problem as I'll only use them when it's foggy:)

speeding is illegal too, never stops anyone tho;-)

Just visited Audi shop in Norway yesterday, and they was saying H8 for the fogs. I'm not trusting that 100% before I see the fog bulbs that currently are fitted. On 8P the fogs had different bulbs for s-line and non s-line.

Anyone with s-line tried changing the bulbs yet?

Just ordered H8 GP Thunder II 7500K Xenon match bulbs. One of the best on market! Especially on H8 which is a small bulb, hard to get really white light on these. GP Thunder is det best match in my opionon compared with Höen bulbs.

Bulbs should be no more the 4k colour temp to match the xenon headlight colour. Higher, and lamp will start to develop have a blue ting.

Thanks for your replies guys, to be honest we don't want to use them as fog lights as such, even when it is foggy we prefer to just use the dipped beam. But the currently bulbs look a bit unsightly when you unlock the car next to the LED brows.
t8ups where can I buy them from you and are they easy enough to fit?

    cheers

I can take the order via paypal, they are £15 and £4.30 uk post, they are exactly the bulbs as the GP thunder, just without the $55 postage charge which is Ludacris!! The GP thunders are rated 7500k but they actually shine 6000k as I have the catalogue of the supplier for them.

    have a look here - http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/new-fogs-fitted.225981/#post-2254693

One thing that worries me about fitting non standard bulbs is that the acrylic cover might go opague after a period of time as can happen with headlamps. No one yet has had the car long enough to find out...

Would that require much use for that to happen?
They will never be used as foglights here, we simply didn't like the colour of them when unlocking the car and they come on as courtesy lights.

Probably not unless you are either one of those drivers that have them turned on in daylight or at the slightest hint of any fog. However time will test...

Can someone explain what exactly happens with the fogging? Is it where cheap bulbs heat up and give off some sort of coating which bonds to the inside of the headlight glass?

Thanks for the info, don't think it will affect us as we never use them for driving, it was purely cosmetic when unlocking the car :)

Probably used the fog lights about half a dozen times in the year with a total on time of about 1-2 hours.

I really don't think fogging of lens covers will ever be an issue unless you drive round with fogs on 24/7. Fogging is a photoelectric effect on the plastic lens surface where prolonged exposure to high levels of light radiation decompose the lens polymer. No where near enough energy over the short period of time they are on to cause a problem.

I mainly changed mine for aesthetic reasons as the fog lights come on for a few seconds when r coming home mode (or whatever it's called) is enabled and the mixture of xenon and halogen spoiled the whole look of the car.

Really think Audi should match fogs with xenons, if fitted, as standard.

Or too much heat, and yes I realise that those who only use the fog light a few times are unlikely to have this issue. That one I can work out for myself ;) However, as explained in other threads on this topic, they are slightly yellow because yellow light penetrates fog better, that's why we have fog lights...

the S3 does not have fog lights but has Front L.e.d's, does that make it any better or any worse seeing in the fog?

I personally think it us an urban myth that halogens are better in fog. There was even a time some years ago cars fogs were fitted with yellow coloured lens glass. If there was proven evidence that demonstrated better safety there would be heaps of regs and colour temp and Pantone colour standards but there aren't. In actual fact there is nothing anywhere saying a car must be fitted with front fogs. In the end personal choice dictates.

When you drive in thick fog and turn the fogs on it actually makes it worse seen, like when you turn the full beams on, it does noting. In all my cars I don't use them.

Dave you make a good point here on colour, if you get a picture up of the new bmw x5 all the fog lights now fitted to these are led, they are white, they must of done there r & d before coming up with this surely? The 6 and 5, also have the led version. I upgraded my cooper s to the oem drl kit from mini and the fogs are now led and not halogen how they used to be, il get some pictures for you.

I do not know but as this thread is about cars with fog lights the s3 isn't applicable. I am only repeating what has been stated on another thread...
