    about to start on the service / mechanical bits on my 'fixer upper' should all a4's use red coolant (g12 or whatever its called) only the coolant in this is a mucky brown
    mines a 97 and dont want to put wrong stuff in it after flush

    also is power steeering fluid a dealer only item or is there a cheap alternative, (or is it fairly cheap anyway?) how much would i need if i end up replacing rack

    ye it should have g12+

    Original G12 and the normal green stuff dont mix well, and can often turn to brown sludgy mess. Newer G12+ is better in this respect.

    I'd give the radiator a flush and drain it all well down before refilling it, and you should be fine.

    PAS Fluid can be had from most factors. Stuff i got was called Comma CHF11S
