someone ran into the back of my b5 avant today so now have a chance to replace rear bumper with something different. Has anyone fitted one of these are they a good fit? Any other suggestions for a 2000X Avant. Cheers

I would leave the fibreglass Rieger bumper well alone.

Hard to achieve a decent fit, your car sounds like a nice example.

I'd go for the Euro Avant S4 OEM bumper, looks classy, and changes the rear of non-S cars a treat.

is it a straight swop or does it need modding to get it to fit. are there any pictures around and do you have a part number, thanks for the help.

S4 rear bumper fits directly to A4, it's the same width.

Will find some pictures to post here tomorrow, and give you part numbers too.

siena is spot on, the s4 one adds a bit more to it and is not really that much more expensive.

is the person who ran into you paying cash or going through the insurance?

thanks guys, i knew you'd come up trumps, pictures would be great, their insurance is paying but the bodyshop will fit anything i want, or so they say. Siena, apparently the Rieger bumper is ABS plastic or am i being spun a line? What is fitted to Road Razors silver A4, i think it was seidl? any good?

I dunno, but I've been looking for facelift rear end for a while now, and other than buying new from Audi, it seems a bit of a rare part!

Yo! My Rear bumper is a Seidl ST1 replica but otherwise (commonly) known A4 "RS4" rear bumper. It isn't strictly an RS4 bumper but that's what they're commonly known as from suppliers. I bought the bumper from venodesign.com. There's only one real issue to the fitment is you may need to modify the exhaust by raising them by at least 1/2 an inch so the exhausts feeds through the slots of the bumper.

    I'll post some pics.

Rear bumpers are around £250 new from Audi and they look excellent on our cars I used to run a Seidl ST2 unit but just did not feel it felt very OEM so when someone hit my rear I replaced it with a S4 unit and just heated it to fit my RS4 arches.

Here's a diagram of the Seidl bumper.

It's made of glass fibre, it's very light and I've had no issues with fitment except for the exhausts.

Indicated in green is where the exhaust sits if it's not raised. I suppose the method of fitting depends on the bodyshop you choose. My bodyshop attached it using screws indicated in yellow. Just gotta make sure they apply lock thread to the screws to stop them vibrating loose.

Wellhouse, it's up to you to decide.

£250 thats good, do you need any fitting hardwear ontop of that to or does it just slot on to the normal A4 brackets?

Been looking at rear bumper options for a while as thats the last bit of bodywork needed on my RS4 rep that never got done.

Oh and Doc do you have to alter the exhaust at all to get it to fit? S4 bumper cut out looks lower than std??

Since it's the Avant you have, here I posted some pictures of how a Seidl bumper will look on the Avant. There aren't that many but I've managed to find a few.

I'll need to dig some pictures of A4 avants with S4 bumpers (if I can find any). So far these are S4s just for illustration.

You might have to get the side brackets plus tou know you will need to heat the side to get them to line up with your arches.

got a price for a S4 bumper from Audi today. £40 more than a standard bumper at £340 plus you need the side brackets which i think he said were £3.80 each, still undecided about the ABS rieger bumper or Seidl, trouble is they all look good, its the fitting that might be an issue, if it involves an modifying to fit, i'm not sure Audi will do it, if its straight fit - no problem. aaaaaah!!!!

Thanks guys for all the pictures, its a hell of a lot easier when you can see what your buying, am i right in thinking the S4 bumper needs modifying to fit, or have i lost the plot, cheers

S4 rear bumper won't need modifying to fit your car.

The modification only applies if your car's got the RS4's broad shoulders.

It'll be fine on your facelift Avant.

Thanks Siena, so no mods required then on a S4 bumper on my car, i was starting to get confused with some people talking about heat guns but i'm assuming thats on pre 1999 cars, mines a 2000 avant. I've got some new audi sideskirts for the car, how much should i be paying to spray and fit do you reckon?

Wellhouse the heat gun thing is for stretching the bumper out to make it flow with RS4 arches as we have wide body cars.
Looks like for you its just a case of buying, spraying and fitting mod modifications at all.
