take off fuse box cover, remove containment nuts which you can see plus under dash nuts and remove drivers side under dash, if you can loosen your wind screen wiper nuts do so and remove plastic full length cover, these are hard to remove nut, that is and sometimes siezed, it doesnt matter, get an old metal coat hanger ant thread through inside of car to bay, tape on use a little washing up liquid to pull through freely,i T peiced to 007 vale tubeing. cheers shane.

Oh ******** I've wired it in wrong! The back light comes on when the ignition comes on but then goes off when the lights are turned on and it's brining up a dash error telling me a bulbs blown!

Think I'll tackle that in the morning :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I've got a gauge that I'm planning on fitting into a pillar pod.

Did you route the hose the way shanejess suggested?

Yes but I managed to do it without removing the lower dash, but it would have made things easier if I had.

I also removed both wiper arms and the whole scuttle tray and removed the wiper mech so I could access the plastic box on the drivers side, under the wiper arm. I removed this box so I could feed the hose through. I then drilled a hole in the box and poked the hose through that.

Oh and I also plumped the t piece into the FPR pipe and not the DV one like Shane mentioned.

Just wondering have you revved the car a bit when you took that photo because your vacuum should be around 21 in.HG on idle.

If that was on cold start thats about right. On warm idle it should be around 21-22.

Just a quick pic for the original poster showing the box under the plastic scuttle. You can see the pipe for my boost gauge. I went through the rubber grommet and added some silicone.

Yeah that was a cold start nath, phew.

HTC, I used your old thread with that same pic on, cheers. The plastic box on the S3 is slightly different though.

Thats actually a good place to feed the hose into the car. I feed mine through the little hole were the bonnet catch goes through by the drivers side bonnet strut. Was a bit awkward getting it through but easy to route it to the gauge once inside the car.

Same place as you mate. There were two types, 1 for pre face lift and 1 for post.

I attempted to fit mine today but i fell at the first hurdle.....lol

My wipers wouldn't come off. I tried the pliers trick....etc but they wouldn't budge, so i gave my mechanic a call and he is going to get them off with a puller tomorrow :)

I'm really not looking forward to digging around under the dash :(

I've moved to Thailand so I don't get much chance to post here these days but I like to read and post on the forums when I get time. I still have my car but it's just sitting in a garage in deepest darkest Sussex. Hasn't been driven in over a year now. I was thinking of having it shipped over here, but the costs wouldn't make it worth it. You don't see any A3s or S3s over here.

Glad to hear you guys are still enjoying your cars.

On my drive into work today I noticed that the vac wont register any more than 16 in hg when idling. Does this mean I have a leak somewhere or just a cheap ass gauge? ;)

didnt like saying westle but your gauge looks as cheap as. i wanted one more accurate so paid a bit more, yours you have to guess a little because of the 5 psi stage markers. looks ok though its fit well.

It does look a bit cheap but I wanted one that matched the interior/orignal dash so went for that one. It's a lot better made than it looks, and wasn't super cheap. I dont mind a bit of guess work, I only bought it so I could keep a roungh eye on what boost is doing on my car.

Does it matter how long the hose is from the diverter valve to the boost gauge?

The reason i ask is that after removing the the wipers i couldn't lift the scuttle tray, so i ended up using the same hole i used for my sub.

The only problem is that the hole is on the passenger side of the car so i need to run a hose along the back of the dash and use a joiner to join the two hoses under the passenger foot well.

    Another question I've got is....

Do we need to use a specific type of hose or can i buy some from an aquatic shop?

    Thanks guys ;)

In my fitting kit I got some plastic hose that needed to be attached to silicone at the end so it fits the t piece. I had half a metre of black 3mm silicone that I used on the end of he plasic hose so I could route it round the engine bay how I wanted.

Some plastic hose isn't up to the job and will melt so make sure you get something that can stand reasonably high temps.

I didn't even think about the heat, I was thinking more about the hose collapsing under pressure.

Yeah mine come with about a metre of hose (don't think its heat resistant) but i think ill need to add another metre to it.

I thought the hose on top of the dv...etc was 4mm?

My memory is so bad and the silicone I had in the garage was over a year old and didn't have any size printed on it so I can't remember the exact size. 3 or 4mm

I went out on a hunt for some cheap vac hose but they all seem like they will collapse .

I've looked at both the silicone and the pvc hoses (like the windscreen washer hose) but none of them seem as good quality as the pvc one that come with the gauge.

    help....lol

Did you get some with the gauge? If so you should be able to use that then connect some 3mm silicone to the end of it to extend it. You need to put silicone on the end of the plastic hose anyway to be able to use the t-piece into the DV/FRP line.

Yes mate, the gauge come with some good quality clear pvc hose. its just not long enough.

The problem I'm having is I cant seem to find any hose that i can add to it that's up to the job.

They all seem like they are going to collapse under pressure :(

I don't suppose you've got a link to the one you bought have you mate?

I've been to quite a few shops now and the quality have been really bad (very thin) do I'm a bit hesitant about buying it online because ill just be taking the sellers word for the quality.
