    Hi guys,

My car will be 3 years old in May, registered in the UK on 20-05-2002. But before then, my road tax is due - runs out on the 30 April.

What should I do, get the car MoT'd before 30 April, thus having the certificate for the Road Tax renewal?

Or just get the road tax renewed, based on the fact that the car isn't infact 3 years old until 20 May?

    Cheers

    AL

If you get the MOT done a fortnight before its due(06/05/05), you can get it post dated for 200506, providing you take in your V5 to the MOT testing station.

Get your tax before it runs out, and then its 1 less document to check. just done the same recently /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

you may find that coz the dates are so close together the PO insist you get it MOTd first. that happened to a friend of mine.

You'll have more trouble at the PO if you get MOT post dated, just get it taxed before the MOT is due. My wife's car tax runs out 31st Dec along with insurance on 7th Jan. She tried to get it retaxed on 4th Jan with the new insurance doc and they wouldn't let her, she had to return home for the old insurance certificate that only had 2 days left on it.
They really make it easy for the insurance dodging t*ssers who can get a years tax with a 14 day cover note & an MOT that has 1 day left on it.

    Al,
Get the MOT done about a month eraly, as it'll give them chance to rectify any faults under warranty...

I'd rather have that, and suffer a few days loss of the MOT cert.

Mine needed 2 suspension bushes, 1 track rod end, and a new fuel filter to replace the cracked one...all at under 3 years old.

    Not impressed...
