Finally ordered my new 8V

    After many months of looking a various models I have finally ordered my new 8v.

    It will be a 2.0TDI-184 s-tronic quattro Sport Sportback in Silver with Black/Silver seats and Standard suspension.

    I have added a total of £4,665 worth of options. It will almost certainly not be the spec most of you would have ordered but it is H5DJR and H5JHR approved.

    The Estimated Delivery Date quoted on the order is 2 May 2013 but I think that should be 2014!

    All I have to do now is continue driving my 2.0TDI-170 s-tronic Sportback until the new one arrives.

    OK the options I've added are:

    Adaptive cruise control
    Audi parking system plus
    Comfort pack
    Door mirrors - auto-dimming on the driver's side, electrically adjustable, folding and heated
    Electrically adjustable front seats
    Electric lumbar support
    Heated front seats
    Hold assist
    Reversing camera
    Storage and luggage compartment pack
    Through-load facility
    Type pressure loss indicator
    Xenon light package.

    Most of the spec is what I have on my current Sportback.

    But wouldn't there only be improvements over 2014? Or have I made a mistake in ordering 2015?!

    Mainly because if I wait until the details are given to the dealers in April and then add 12 weeks delivery to the production start of the 2015 MY in June/July it would mean I would be getting my car at the end of the summer rather than at the beginning. Also the price would go up by then and the value of my existing Sportback would go down leaving more money to find.

    I ordered last week for MY 2015 and estimated delivery June. The price I have agreed to pay is the final price, so if it increases due to additional extras becoming standard then I won't pay anymore.

    But yeah if you want your car sooner I can understand, I'm sure you'll be laughing while I'm still waiting!

    Yup - the price increase last year happened between me ordering and taking delivery, but didn't have to pay any extra for it. Price is fixed at order time pretty much.

    Nice spec. Only two other options I would suggest is mono pur and high beam assist.

    Mono pur I believe really adds to the premium feel of the car around the centre console and the doors. It's also considerably more hard wearing than the standard plastic.

    High beam assist I think is a bargain - it does make driving at night just that bit easier.

    Seems a strange combination Sport + lots of options, some of which are standard on S line, but each to their own. Enjoy!

    It still works out cheaper than s-line for the options you do want - you'll notice I did the same!

    Given recent S-Line suspension set ups I can understand people wanting to avoid it. It's one of the least compliant set ups I've driven alongside SEAT's Leon FR.

    S-line and Sport have the same 'Sport' suspension as standard. I wasn't able to find an S-line with SE suspension, so I don't want to risk buying a car I haven't tried. The one with standard Sport suspension was comfortable for me!

    S line Sports suspension. More dynamic spring/damper setting and lowered by an additional 10mm compared with
    the Sports suspension or by 25mm compared with the standard suspension

    Given Dave's preferences he may deselect sports suspension if it can be done, I've only driven the 8V in S3 spec to date so I can't comment on how the other variants ride.

    Ah, you're right. I would assume that most dealers would order it by default on the S line though, unless instructed otherwise.

    It can indeed, on both Sport and S line - Deselection of Sports suspension. Available as a no-cost downgrade from Sports suspension on Sport and S line models. If chosen then the Sports suspension lowering is removed and the suspension is returned to the standard ride height and damping

    Not necessarily. Audi may decide to add something to the standard Sport model equipment that I don't like. For example the equivalent Golf 7 model comes with Privacy Glass which I neither like nor want. At least by ordering from a known set of standard equipment and options I am getting what I know I will like.

    Yes, but Stephen was just pointing out that they come with the same Sport suspension as standard. You have to ask for S-line suspension.

    I've said before - I can't decide whether I want to test drive the 184 or not - it might make me wish I had waited to order it! I had to change cars when I did though so didn't really have a whole lot of choice...

    I must admit that is one of the reasons I purchased my 2012 Sportback. I knew the 8V was due out but as often happens with Audi it takes some times for all the models to become available. So I thought I like the 8P so I will purchase a new one now which will keep me happy until there are more models of the 8V available.

    Perhaps that's what I should have done - not put as many options on this one so I could then spec up a different model later on without losing out too much. There's always that tuning box though I suppose, but I'm still a bit wary about those - though will happily admit I don't know all that much about them! I just know 2 people who got stung for insurance by having a remap. They both said it would add hardly anything at the time, then stung them for much more at renewal time (one of them was even refused a renewal quote because of it!)

    Currently drive a ST225 and had a 140 Golf before. Reason I'm not going for the 150 is because I think I'll miss the power and regret not choosing the 184. I'm sure it'll have plenty of poke when I drive it on Saturday

    I drove a couple of A3 150s and a Golf 150 and they did seem a little down on power and mid-range torque compared with my current 170. Like you I thought, having been driving a 170 for some years, am I going to miss it and wish I had gone for the 184. So I decided to have a test drive in a 184 and because I want s-tronic it had to be quattro as well and it was brilliant. Probably my dream car, small but powerful, good quality, comfortable for short and long journeys with enough 'toys' to enjoy. Being 67 and retired I'm certain I will not want anything more, except perhaps another one in three years time!!

    I do tend to find that you get used to the speed of whatever you drive within a couple of weeks and always want a bit more... so going for the 184 may not actually have helped in that respect for me!

    Very true. It's only when you go down on power that you tend to notice it for longer. I had a 2007 170 and then went to a 2009 140. Although it was the better CR engine it was a bit less power which is why I ended up have it remapped. When I bought my existing 170 it was so much smoother than the remapped 140. If I get my new one in late April/early May it should be nicely run in for when I go to Germany for two weeks in early October.

    I have just been looking at some photos of my existing 8P Sportback and one of the things I like most about it are the wheels. They are C4N 17" x 7.5J 16-spoke design which were an option at the time. I think I prefer them to the same size C9X 5 arm design that will come on my new 8V Sportback. I have also had a new set Hankook ventus S1 evo tyres fitted a couple of weeks ago which I like aa they give good performance and are very quiet. I've obviously no idea what tyres will come on the new car.

    I think I may consider swapping the existing wheels and tyres onto the new 8V. I think I will have to have a word with my dealer and see what he says.

    Dave 8 p to. 8v wheel swap ... All I can say is don't do it....
