I can see where your coming from a little in standard form I would get bored aswell but then again I never bought it to keep standard, I always had tuning in mind, maybe consider a remap when one is available? It will change the excitement factor more for sure. Be carful though its a very slippery slope ;)

Well its been just over a week with my new S3. I have done just a little over 200 miles in it and I love it.

Personally i really cant understand why people are having gripes over their new purchase. For a 33k+ car you would think you would be made up! 300hp is not to be snuffed at!

    Loves
    1) I love the fact that the car is quite subtle and its not 'in your face' with go faster ****. You really have to look at it to realise its an S3 that will hold its own. I have noticed that when people notice your in the S3 they look at you and your car longer.
    2) The satisfying feeling that you dont have to prove to anyone when on the road that you could take them if you wanted too, in Liverpool anyway the car certainly commands respect.
    3) The new car smell. Nuff said
    4) The MMI system and how its all hooked up to the ECU. I love all the customization options in the menu, frees up the dashboard keeping it simple
    5) The sound of the exhaust. I have my individual mode set to dynamic for the exhaust sound and comfort for the other two options. Its gives this throaty feel and sound to the exhaust and if you give it the beans the bangs from the down/upshifts will certainly help waken the neighbours. It doesnt give a V8 sound (its nothing on the sound of my dads BMW 645ci V8) but its still very satisfying
    6) The build quality. Obviously the Germans know what they are doing
    7) The fuel economy. I have been getting between 20-25mpg in suburbia Liverpool and for 300 rampaging German horses under the bonet then i am chuffed with this

    Dislikes
    1) The fact that for every journey you have to manually turn the stop start function off. A real pain in the arse. Its set to on for default and i wish you could have it set to off as a default. Why put stop start on a 300hp car is beyond me.
    2) When you shift from drive to neutral when at the lights or stop the car jidders a little as it brings the drive train out of drive. Its not a big issue, but my VW Scirocco didnt do this, only when the engine was at cold i think.
    3) The fact that the boost gauge does not have the figures next to it for ex 1.4,1.2,10bar etc etc

If i can think of any more ill put them up. I dont really drive the car much in the week as i bus and train it to work although i might start taking the car in on Wednesdays and Fridays if i can sort a parking spec out. Parking prices in Chester are scandalous just like everywere but im thinking i might be able to get a free space in work. Get driving those S3's now! And enjoy! We wont have cars like this forever as the hippies will put a stop to it soon!

I'm sure I read about this on the forum but couldn't find anything with a quick search but I'm getting a slight knocking noise on both doors when going over bumps (the joys of our roads), I think it's coming from around the top of the door. Nothing major but is this something I should get looked at/is there a fix?

Its the door card rubbers / seals I believe - Audi can sort it for you on a warrenty job - lots have had the issue - get it booked in.

Sorry for the cross-post, forgot I should put this here...

    So my two week write-up...

Well it started well with a lovely sunny day and a decent frist drive, but somewhat dispirited by the dent in my side door within 5 mins of setting off!

After that have put around 600 miles on the clock with a few drives into london, and down to Kent as well as short drives around town.

    Initial positives:

    - Such a lovely place to spend time. The SS seats are so comfy and I've been playing with the thigh support, lumbar support and so on, to now get a very comfortable seating position.
    - The interior is so well set out, and now I'm starting to get used to the MMI and buttons, it's all very intuitive. I'm also impressed with the little things, like the damping on the switch-gear. You forget that you use the indicator stalk all the time, and I love the weighting, noise and damping on things like that, it helps it feel like a quality product.
    - The two 'faces' of the car. A lot of the time, you can't use all the power, for example when cruising on a busy motorway or sat in traffic. When thats the case, I can sit in a comfortable car, being soothed by the B&O, with my ACC and s-tronic basically driving itself, and my heated seat relaxing my back, in my comfy SS seats. It's then a lovely exec cruiser. Then I come off the main road, turn music off, stick it in dynamic and give it the beans and it becomes a touring car! Absolutely love that you can have both. Its exactly what I wanted in a car. I do too much driving on congested roads for an out and out sports car during the week (although I am looking at one for the weekend , but thats another story), so the S3 is a perfect fit.
    - S-tronic gear box. Not had one in my car before, but its pretty faultless. The combo with ACC is amazing, and I love the ease in which I can switch to manual when I want some fun. It actually has made me a 'better' driver on normal roads, as in D it lets you just cruise along without urging you to floor it all the time and be a tit. S is a different matter of course
    - B&O is fantastic, it really brings the music to life, and actually have loved listening to things like talksport and classic FM on it as well as some banging tunes, and helps offset the tyre noise...(more on that later)
    - The looks...the Panther Black is lovely and have had non-car people staring at it and asking what is was, so the fact that its different from 'normal' black is visible to those not in the know which is cool. I love the combination of black and chrome, and the fact that it's both subtle, but the car still looks 'special'. Have already had a couple of blokes literally hang out of their punto window in traffic to stare at it!
    - The traction, which is phenomenal. I used to hate the scrabbling around in my Scirocco, as well as the traction control kicking in and ruining my fun, so liking the 'grip and go'. Not tried it in the wet yet though.

    The not so good...

    - Tyre roar is pretty bad, worse than my Scirocco (which was also bad IMO). I presume its partly down to the 19's, but also I suspect the Conti's I have on. Its actually fine on decent tarmac, but as soon as you go on rubbish road its really quite loud and annoying. As I'm on the maintentance pack, I'm stuck with the Conti's too. Its not the end of the world, as I tend to have the B&O on when I'm cruising which easily masks it, and when I'm driving hard the engine and exhaust take over, but its the fly in the refinement ointment I'd say
    - My dent, nuff said, although hopefully getting it fixed in two weeks
    - The ride has be a bit bad over rubbish ground, and especially any big bumps. I've taken to going over road humps like an old granddad as a result. Its not that the overall ride is bad (actaully its pretty good on normal roads) but potholes and bumps really thump, and because the car is sprung so firmly going over road humps at over 1 mph seems to result in a real bounce! Its not the end of the world, and will probably actually help me out in the long run in terms of looking after my suspension and shocks, but there you go
    - and .....not much else

Putting a pretty big grin on my face to far. My wife laughs at me as I'm out every few days cleaning it, especially the quad pipes which I've been looking after with some brasso (the inside ones in particular seem to get black quickly). Took the kids out in it at the weekend too, and it does work well as a family car, boot swallowing our big pushchair and other kiddy stuff no problem, and car seats etc going in fine.

Further updates as I break into the post 1000 mile bedding in period and really start to push it a bit :jump:

My thoughts after 5000 miles / 6 months...

Like most things so will concentrate on what I dislike:

    1. Super Sport seats look amazing and are really comfortable, but don't offer a lot of support when cornering at speed. Despite the fact that I love the way they enhance the interior I think I'd go Alcantara if (or rather when) I order the next one.
    2. The screen pops up every time you re-start the engine and use the MMI. I usually have the radio on and the screen down, and would prefer if I could turn on the radio without the screen popping up.
    3. The reduced boot size due to quattro! Hadn't really appreciated this when I ordered. Not been an issue so far, but could be for weeks away over the summer.
    4. A clock should be standard in the DIS.
    5. Won't make the mistake of not polishing the quad exhausts for five months again! Took me 2 hours to get them looking half way decent using Mequiar's NXT and there is now very slight pitting on the inner pipes.
    6. Steering does feel a bit 'point 'n' shoot'. It's way too light in comfort, particularly once you get used to dynamic. I now have it in dynamic all the time. Would be more of a problem if the grip wasn't so confidence inspiring.
    7. Unsurprisingly these are already common cars in Aberdeen! :(

And just in case you think I'm being hard on the car:
    1. Love the understated looks, pace, grip, and economy (31mpg long term) given the circumstances.
    2. Love the start-stop, but then I'm in a manual.
    3. For me at least it's the perfect daily driver.

Nice to see more personal reviews.

Wrt the two above points. 1. Unfortunately this is all to do with the emissions rating, if it was off by default then no doubt the tax would be higher. 2. I wouldn't personally advise you stick the car into neutral that often in a modern auto. They're generally best left in drive with the brake pedal held (it actually causes more wear to change from drive to neutral than to hold the brake).

Got my S3 in Jan and have done almost 6000 miles on it! My review so far is that its epic. Love it in most ways. A few things that concern me are the black exhausts, I to haven't cleaned them in about 4/5 months and reading the previous post think I will be spending quite a few hours on this. Also find the auto beam headlight a waste of cash, just don't use it and when I have tried it, doesn't react how I want it to. Also slightly disappointed on the B+O sound system didn't really wow me! Not sure if its down to type of media I'm playing on it or what. Just seems a bit flat :(. Love the LED strip lights tho! :sm4:

Yeah I had the same issue with my last car's chrome exhausts, had to using really fine wire wool in the end, not ideal. That's why I'm at the every week for 2 mins with the brasso!

I use 0000 grade wire wool and Autosol metal polish. It took me 5-10mins to do the twin exhausts on my diesel s-line and they looked like new after 12 months and 21k of punishment.

Little tip - if you really struggle with the exhaust pipes getting 5 months of soot off then there is a solution. Would suggest buying some "wonder wheels". Think it's about £6 Halfords.

Pour some on a microfibre cloth and wipe off the dirt / soot. It will get 95 % of it very easily. This solution is great BUT is only to be done very rarely when it's totally caked on like yours. Continuous use everytime you was the car will dull the chrome finish on the pipes. Would suggest you do it while washing the car so you can wash off any residue of the cleaning solution. You can then polish like normal.

    22.000 km in 4 months.

    bad handsfree microphone.

    1 oil change at 10.000km

Don't like the seats ( lateral support ).

Don't like the steering assist at all.

    Fuel tank too small.

This car should have 7 gear.

6th gear is too short , I drive long distances at 4k-4.5k rpm...

    will MTM it.

    regards.

    Just picked mine up today.

    Love it.

    Engine is lovely.

Floored it through some tunnels. Loved it.

Floored it past leeds art college with all the beanie/air max lads stood outside. They loved it.

Drove across to Manchester got 35mpg. Love that!

Going to drive it home rather quickly and up to see my Mum and Dad. Planning to floor it. I will love that.

I don't think my mrs will be overly enamoured but that's what efficiently mode is for (which I quite like for the MW)

So overall I think I love it.

    So far so good!!

Agree with the quality of the hands free mic

Also - yes, my S3 8P 3dr had better seats, with more lateral support.

Yeah that makes sense. To be honest I've just picked up this morning and I'll probably keep it in D and brake at lights unless I can see the person behind me getting a tan or if I feel they deserve it : )

Just a question for everyone. I though I saw that Audi now produce a cable for the iPhone 5? Did I dream that? I'm having to resort to a USB lead plugged into the Audi cable which leaves my armrest full of cables.

    Anyone know?

Just out of interest, why buy an S3 to do 3000 miles a month? Did you not consider a big diesel instead? Bigger tank, longer final gear etc?

Quick thread swerve here, but thanks loads to everyone who contributes to this thread, I found it really interesting and informative when making up my mind (S3 vs Golf R), before taking the plunge.

Not much of a writer, but will try to add my tuppence-worth when mine arrives....

I'm amazed at the versatility of the car. It really can be quite economical when you are just trundling along the motorway and then knock in into manual and dynamic it's a really effective point to point car. I am very pleased with my purchase. I'm yet to use LC but i will in the next few days. Just need a quiet stretch. Oh and accelerations in tunnels are awesome, the exhaust is very good standard, would consider a miltek though in future.

often the smartest decision is not the one we like the most.

I know it is not the best car to do 30,000-35,000 per year but I know I will enjoy that car every mile :)

    Passion is what drives us

    Hi all!

I need a feedback from ppl with the S3.
When accelerating do you hear in background a creeping sound, like a brake pad that creeps on the disc? It is louder if you accelerate more.

    Thanks!

Nope I do not refer to that noise. Too much difficult to troubleshoot noises describing them in words. I will have a visit to the dealer.

    Thanks
