FAO 2.7T owners

    As seems to be common place with most dual mass flywheel equiped cars, mines foobared, so I've been looking into single mass replacements.
    I've spoken to one of my customers from work who specialise in motorsport spec and custom flywheels, they do a fair bit of work for various teams in btcc, formula ford etc etc.
    They've said to me that they can make up a billit steel flywheel, either lightened or std weight with the timing holes for the 2.7 no problems, infact Siena has one of their flywheels for his V8 conversion.
    After a bit of negotiation they've said that if I can come up with around 5 orders for these, they can sell them to me at a reduced rate, as with any machine work it takes more time to set up the machines than it does make the product, so making say 5 is far more cost effective than just 1.

    So who here would be interested if I could get one delivered to your door for £265?
    which is about £100 less than their RRP!

    ive got the light weight one , its really good , dont know if its me its just a bit rattely at very low revs under strain has been from the very start

    was the route I was planning to go, can get an LUK one for about £150, dunno if that's a good price or not tho.

    Tufty, believe me, you don't want to be use a LUK clutch, I wouldn't run one on a mildly modified 1,8T, never mind one with the spec you're planning!

    I'm running an RS4 clutch too.

    I'd only recommend Sachs.

    Or of course, RS4 clutch. :ninja:

    Now you say that, my sachs clutch in the astra is only rated for 150bhp and is quite happy holding almost twice that, even at the pod.

    I use a luk clutch on my car, as does my mate ash on is mk4 golf thats over 300bhp :)

    i payed £98 plus vat as did my mate about 14 months ago! :)

    Will usually start off feeling like a duff engine mount, you'll have a "clunk" feeling when lifting the clutch on gearchanges.
    they can also rattle on idle and in bad cases knock and clunk when on and off the throttle.
    I've also found on some that when you turn the engine off, theirs a clunk / rattle as the engine stops.

    Would a flywheel for the 2.7t fit a 2.8q? they are pretty much the same engine aren't they? if so I might be interested

    I've been trying to find the answer to this, but have come up blank so far.
    as far as I can see, they both run the same size clutch plate, and i would have thought that the crank mounting would be the same, so it's just down to wether the pulse cutouts are the same i guess.

    N/A 30V flywheel has different profile to S4 / RS4 item.

    Profile as in crank trigger, or as in the thickness of the friction surface?

    Ie if you used a S4 flywheel and clutch together would it work on a 2.8 30v?

    Trigger's in the same place.

    6-speed cars have a different flywheel profile, as the bell housing depths are different to a 5-speeder.

    but you can fit a 6sp tranny to a 5sp car with no flywheel issues?

    I've done the above in the past, but had severe clutch slippage - the pedal didn't feel right either, as the release bearing was further away from the pressure plate.

    It's the very reason the S4 / RS4 run a 11,2mm spacer between the engine and tranny, and the regular 12V / 30V models don't.

    so if you were doing a 6 speed swap should you be installing that spacer too? Bit confusing, i thaught all these parts were a straight swap, but i did wonder about the spacer used on the S4 having an effect on the input shaft and the release bearing...

    Whats your plan for the V8? will it bolt straight up to the 6sp as you have a custom flywheel? or will you require some kinda spacer?

    No spacer required for mine.

    My flywheel is the same dimension as an OEM S8 6 speed manual item.
    6 speed bolts straight up.

    cool stuff, as i said previously, i'll be after one of those flywheels for the landrover (and maybe another if i get this V8 trackcar sorted), but atm spare money is non existent, and i really need to find a workshop to work on the motor, otherwise the flywheel will just end up sat in the porch for months :p
