Very sad to hear this about Ricciardo, I read the team will appeal the decision, but this is not good for F1, sort it out before they get on the grid! (like john said)

Excellent race, excellent result (apart from the above) good to see a different mix of drivers and teams, with genuine race pace.

Bottas was my driver of the day, top class overtaking. :applaus:

Buttons nose chopped off, has his car finished under legal dimensions ???

I didn’t find it boring today, far from it… cannot wait for Malaysia !!

Don't know how long those low noses are going to stop around for after Kobayashi rear ended Massa , another 20mph and he may have gone completely under the rear of Massa's car. I am sure they will be looking into it.
As for buttons nose I thought that was part of the crash structure, doesn't look to be too good if it falls off by being knocked.

Now that 'some' of the dust has cleared I can only conclude that F1 has just done a:

I would say if it hadn't been for Bottas then it would have been a bit drab. You've got a lot of people managing a lot of factors behind the scenes (limited fuel / KERS / ERS / reliability / Pit stops), and whilst it adds dimensions to the racing in terms of strategy management, I think the one vital component is still missing; flat out (balls out) racing. If I wanted to watch in depth strategy I'd watch chess; all I've ever really wanted from F1 is for talented drivers to go out in a quick car and wring it's neck all afternoon to achieve the best possible result. If it had been kept reasonably simple I think this could have achieved, but then there would have been no jobs for the boys.

Completely agree. Fuel saving and tyre saving should have no place in motorsport.

Woohoo, great win for LH! :yahoo: I quite enjoyed watching today's race for some reason, not a classic by any means, but more enjoyable than Australia anyways.

But I did find it strange that the SLS pace car had a nicer engine note than the current F1 cars!

Agree with you JoJo, not a classic but I too enjoyed the race today, lots of activity right down the field.

What do you think of this “regulation” on unsafe release?

Imo I think it’s a little harsh not only to give a driver a 10-second stop and go, but also a 10-place grid drop at the next race?

Id agree with the punishment for, unsafe release into another car in the pit lane, because that’s down the team, someone saying stop or go.. "trying" to get out a little quicker

..but you'd never "try" to get away with sending a car off without 4 wheels on properly.

it's racing.... or it should be

Agree with that Ghost, it's too much for a mistake that's cost him twice in the race already! Nobody was physically hurt, the wheel didn't fall off, so are they making an example of Red Bull? I certainly hope so, but I would have been happier if it was Vettel. :ninja:

Go Massa - don't accept the team orders so early in the season! If Bottas was faster why didn't he pass? Hamilton wouldn't wait to be invited through in the same situation.

    Remember this.

How does so much of the bad luck in Red Bull get directed to the 'no.2' driver???? It's almost like all the resources are directed to supporting Vettel.

Didn't think much of today's race, the midfield battles were the highlights, but still amazed how many cars were getting two straights of DRS assistance and still failing to pass.

The most technically interesting piece for me is how Hamilton managed to win / deliver fastest times yet his fuel usage was lower than those in the pack (other than Williams). I'm not sure I fully understand how all the harvested energy technologies are coming together to deliver the overall power performance, and then how it is subsequently deployed. Wish you could see with graphics when then are deploying it.

Glad to see Red Bull not winning every race, but for some reason the season doesn't yet feel that racy. It just feels a touch tentative with people going into conservation mode to protect tyres /fuel / engines / gearboxes.

Sadly I do, but with respect this regulation don’t prevent wheels coming off.

maybe Put the photographer in a cage?

I forgot to mention in my original reply that I found it odd the commentators had access to fuel consumption, albeit, in the form of how much used in percentage, who the hell actually cares?! Unfortunately, it's part and parcel of F1 today, so guess we have to accept it!

Re the unsafe release saga, it was agreed by the teams that a 10 grid penalty would be instated at the next race should it happen! Also, there's another rule which states that all personnel in the pits area must be wearing a helmet of some sort, and not all the Redbull mechanics had headgear on whilst pushing Ricciardo's car back to their pit, so let's see if that rule comes into play.

Re the harvesting of energy aswell, I read a Lewis Hamilton article on how quali and racing requires 2 different type of driving styles. Going into a corner, he just backs off the throttle, and the energy recovery kicks in on the coast down, and he would get 1G of braking just from that, then he needs to 'feel' for the braking point, and it is this that he has to master on these cars to become a more efficient driver, which takes concentration. In quali, it's all out braking late, as he doesn't need to worry about the recovery, he only needs the boost for one lap!

I know the teams were only supposed to test at Jerez & Bahrain, but Mercedes seem to have this new Engine\Drivetrain all figured out already! Does anyone feel they may be guilty of secret testing (maybe in a disguised body shell) again, or is it a result of throwing an unlimited research budget at it?

My belief is they had started throwing their resources to the hybrid drivetrain last year, once they saw how dominant the Redbulls was last year, so technically, they had a head start.

What did you all think about “Sherlock” post-race questions on the podium?

In never been a fan of the talking to the drivers up there, maybe good for the fan’s at the circuit, but it’s a bit of a free-for-all imo.
But now they getting actors on the podium……. give me a break!!

I don't like the podium interviews as they don't seem to ask pertinent questions, but mainly because you can't see the drivers' expressions when they've done something naughty.

That said, Sherlock seemed more comfortable than many previous "guests" and handled it quite well I thought.

A MINIMUM 7-second pit stop, that's double what most teams achieve/require now, so it'll give those pit-crew guys (and gals, maybe?) time to make sure ALL 4-wheels are secure...

    Alternatively, just BLACK flag 'em...

This is a race after all and so many elements to go wrong within that 2-hour/200-mile window

As for actors on the podium, then that's one hell of a reason for a trap door!

Yeah? Thanks! Spooky. I'll let RS3copilot know...

But what about the trap door for actors/celebrities?

Landlords, you know what I mean, are OK for me; but actors (the definition of is in the word) should NOT be allowed anywhere near a technical area (grid/podium/etc.) unless they have a mega degree of automotive nouse and are willing to contribute - and reading someone else's lines/words doesn't do it for me.

Actors need to stay on the stage and be closed off by curtains (or a trap door) when done, unless they have something of technical substance to contribute.

Ok, so I AM/was a creative engineer... now retired but still opinionated...

    AUDI rule for me... :superman:

    Don't forget the fuel.

During the recent Ferrari engine development program recently screened by SKY it was claimed that 99% of the Shell fuel used was the same as you and/or I could purchase at the pumps, but it was that 1% that made the 'power' difference.

During engine development it was shown that the performance and/or life of a 2014 Ferrari engine on the dynamometer could vary from 4-hours to 40-minutes dependant on that 1% mix.

And this is what both Adrian Newey and the Renault engine engineer alluded to in the Team Principals conference yesterday, interesting...

Ha, Vettel not into Q3! Makes me very happy indeed. Shame he yet again benefits from his team mates misfortune! Ricciardo qualifies 3rd, but gets demoted 10 places, so Vettel is 10th!.... Boooo....

one of the most action packed races I have seen for years. Mercedes are so much faster than evrybody else, even more of an advantage than Red Bull have had in years gone by.They were 2.5 seconds a lap fater than evrybody else.
Virtually all the team mates having a go at each other as some time.
I can see Maldonado not making it to the end of the year without being disqualified for at least one race, He is an idiot.

To be honest, I, and probably everyone else, thought Lewis was a gonna once the safety car came out. I was like 'NOOOOOO', Rosberg is just going to out brake him into the first turn once the safety car goes in on the soft rubber. Of course he tried, but a masterclass of driving, and using the slingshot lines meant he could get the position back almost immediately, and that's what made this race so special!

Hats off to Mercedes for letting them race, even though they did insist thy bring both cars home, and hats off to Rosberg for having a go to make it exciting for the viewers, non of this Muilti 21 ****!

How Lewis managed to hold him off on the option tyre with DRS available to Rosberg too we'll never know? But like the commentators said after the race, they know each other very well from their karting days, and it was like watching a kart race for the last 10 laps. Plus they could still pull almost 3 secs a lap on the rest of the field whilst racing for position! Amazing! :racer:

Wow, Hamilton really put one over on Rosberg this time! Slower by 0.6 secs a lap & still managed to keep him behind... Rosberg is not a happy man.

I'm a bit disappointed with the Williams effort, especially Massa ...I expected more from him this season. but great racing all down the field. The safety car made the difference for most of the teams, and the Mercedes pair were at it hammer & tongs all day.

    Real Racing at last. :arco:

It's good to see Hamilton back to his best, the last few years he's let his personal life get in the way of his racing!

Good race and Maldonado needs banning rly don't like the guy!
