Expert help please!

    So yesterday i am going round a corner at reasonable speeds in my S4 and my passenger side cv joint basically exploded, grease every where all over my left front wheel. What strange is when that came on my ABS light also came on and battery light, all my dials stopped working and my battery started to loose charge. So this morning I cleaned up the wheel and started up the engine and all was fine no error codes nothing on VAG com and batter had a good charge.

    I had the CV joint replaced today and then on my 7 miles journey home the battery voltage was just creeping down, until eventually I broke down. Battery completely flat, called out green flag and they advised me that the alternator was not charging the battery. :(

    How much am I looking at paying to fix my alternator at a VW audi specialist and can any body see any reason why it would start doing this after a CV joint going.

    Is it possible that the Flailing driveshaft has ripped a wire off the alternator, or worse smashed the casing or similar?

    I thought the alternator was on the drivers side towards the middle of the S4, the CV joint which broke was on the passenger side? I'm not 100% but i think that is where it is. I hope to god it is just a loose wire but I have a horrid feeling that it isn't.

    Never paid that much attention to the layout of an S4 engine bay.

    Seems a bit coincidental that it happened at the same time though.

    Alternator is on the drivers side.

    Purely for search engine purposes so hopefully some body else won't need to ask the same question. Had my alternator on my S4 changed and installed by a VW Audi specialist for £516. £180 for the alternator, 3.5 hours labour, a new battery and health check.

    So was it just pure coincidence that the alternator died on it's arse at exactly the same time the CV joint 'exploded'? How much did it cost to replace the CV joint? Or was it just the CV boot which tore?

    I will never know, I can't see how the CV joint going would cause the alternator to go as they are on apposite sides of the car, but it is very cramped down there so who knows.

    The whole CV joint and boot needed replacing so that was £220, plus £65 worth of fuel and yesterday means this week I have spent best part of £800. Its not cheap this S4, but when you drive it it is worth it. Driving along some B roads yesterday on my way to Plymouth and it is a machine. Money well spent!!
