Exhaust. Info required

    Afternoon all,

    Does anyone know how much a standard S3 exhaust weighs from the Cat back? Or where to find this info out? Bar taking mine off and weighing it...

    I'm looking at getting a full custom titanium exhaust made up as a replacement, with bigger bore. I estimate it to be approx 70-75% lighter than standard.

    Any help would be great, as I want to work out the pro's and cons.

    Took a3 quattro system off cat back,put on Milltek s3 catback,it didn't feel any lighter,but front pipe and cat section definately is.Heres some pics of custom 2.5"front pipe and3" 100 cell cat. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gifAndy

    It made a big difference in weight going from the twin cats etc to larger freeflowing single type,space is tight for downpipe though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gifAndy

    That's a bit serious is it not?

    Does the titanium exhaust give any extra performance, or are you hoping the 70% lighter in weight will be noticable?

    How much more does a custome titanium exhaust cost compared to a standard exhaust, a Milltek or a Supersprint?

    If you want weight reduction, remove you spare wheel, remove the motors for your electrically adjustable Recaro's, remove the back seat etc!

    [/ QUOTE ]Drill,i changed to s3 backbox heatsheild and backbox n/s mount is also S3 ,i did cut rear valance and lower bumper .Yes it is a custom front pipe and 100 cell cat made by Z-EX in cardiff,they have also done some ibiza turbo ones for my mates,this is their 5th custom vag downpipe.It also goes much better,especially midrange,with hopefully more to come with FMIC and custom revo map adjusted for mods /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dancing.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gifAndy

    The guy that did my car also said he had done a S3 full system inc f/pipe ,don't know who's it is yet to check it out.Cheers Andy

    And Pete, any idea if the S3 exhaust weighs more or less than the A3 Quattro one?

    [/ QUOTE ]I will try to get a photo but i was in a rush when i cut valance so not very neat,i will have to unhook backbox and tidy up ,it was 7.30pm on a friday night when i got it off the ramp with a rolling road day on the sat.Will do a photo of bumper cutout,when car is clean.Weight of original and s3 miltek felt simular not noticably lighter. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gifAndy

    I used sheet metal shears,but they weren't very sharp,will use a dremel cutter to tidy up edges.Cut bumper out roughly with shears and then tidied up shape and edges with a good stanley knife.Watch your fingers and don't forget to rustproof where you trim valance.Is vortex skirt plastic or fibreglass ?Just take your time and cut out small pieces,if you try to cut too much out at once,thats when things go wrong.Measure twice ,cut once /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gifAndy
