Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has heard a few of the different exhausts on the facelift s3's?

I want to certainly make it louder but don't want to do a straight resonator delete because I feel they crackle too much.

I've sort of narrowed it down to;

Pipewerx, local custom exhaust centre with great reviews who can tailer it for me. Quoted £850 fitted.
Milltek, you all know these, quoted £1250 fitted
IPE, no quote as of yet but these sound brutal from the videos I've seen on PFL models.

Thoughts anyone?

You might also want to have a chat with @BCS Nige ,who is a forum sponsor, and has a great reputation for stock pattern and custom exhausts.

This is what he ****** up for my 8P....

Do you know where he is based? I'm from the North west

Powervalve is based in Haydock, St. Helens. Not far from me. They quoted me £400.50 for a res delete!!!! Not paying that. Fair enough I've heard good reports from them I just think it's a bit steep for a res delete.

Now the IPE system I love the sound of, I've been thinking in not bothering with the res delete, saving up and going with IPE but like you I haven't been able to see any prices online but they have two distributors/sellers in Birmingham so I might drop them an email see how much the damage would be!

"Hello Tom,

Thanks for your email regarding the iPE cat back exhaust system for your 2017 Audi S3.

Including in the cat back option will be the mid pipe, valvetronic muffler, remote control module and tips.

The cost the system itself is £2365.00

If you wanted to opt for the black or chrome tips, this would cost an additional £275.00

Once an order is placed, you system is typically ready within 7 working days.

If you have any more questions please let me know.

Kind regards

Shaun"

So way to much for an exhaust on a hatchback, I could only justify that much for a Lamborghini or a Ferrari or something like that.

I'm now tempted to ask Pipewerx if they can replicate that exhaust to the best of their ability, minus the valvetronic part, that's what usually bumps the price up so much.

£400.50? Not sure where you/they got that figure from because I bought one from them a month or so ago and it was £265.50 exc shipping.

PS, if you think a res delete is going to crackle too much then I wouldn't put an exhaust on your car. The S3 with a res delete will sound like a 'normal' car if you want it to.

Jealous of you Euro S3's that get the crackles and pops....

Got a full turbo back system by BCS up for sale. Give me an offer if you want. Based around Manchester.

Well I think I'll leave the IPA system then, unless I come into a bit of money dread to think how much they charge for a lambo!!

Yes, that's fitted. That's also for an industry first anti-drone res delete which really does work and is fantastic. Fit it yourself, it's a 15 minute job and only thing you need is a jack (preferably a set of portable/mobile ramps) a socket and ratchet and a pipe cutter. You can't go wrong.

Yeah I could do it myself, got everything besides the pipe cutter but I'm sure I will know someone with one. Anti drone though, I'm guessing this is less/drone free at higher/motorway speeds? Does it still give a good sound even though its drone free ?

It doesn't detract from the sound at all. Highly recommended.

Does the powervalve res delete crackle when not in dynamic? What I mean is, is it not ridiculously loud when in comfort?

When you drive the car in a way where you want a nice relaxing drive, the car is no louder with a res delete than when stock. It idles slightly deeper and a tad tad louder but nothing to write home about. When you put the car in dynamic mode and you want to drive spiritedly, that's when you'll see all the differences of how the car should've came.

I feel very uneasy about cutting your exhaust pipes into pieces and sticking a third party part on?

I'm assuming the drones are because of that? Because it's not one solid piece?

Also I'm sure than invalidates the warranty!

And I'd assume that changing the whole exhaust system is prohibitively expensive as a solution. (And then swapping back before a service).

If I misunderstood this please explain it to me.

Considering Audi have their own resonator delete I think you're looking into things far too much. Of course if you use a non approved Audi part, you void the warranty for that particular system, not the whole car.

No problems with servicing and having to swap back as many of us will tell you here.

However I believe that's Audi USA and not Audi UK that offer it, from what I've read on here.

I watched the videos. Personally, I don't like how that sounds. To me it sounds like an old Ford Escort with a hole in the exhaust. Unrefined and brash.

It doesn't alter how the car sounds as standard, just louder. You must not like how your car sounds then. :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Maybe it's the recording but it's altered the note as well as the loudness. Removing a resonator will do more than change the loudness. It will also change the relative loudness of different frequencies making up the perceived note. That changes the character of the sound.

It seems there is a lot of enthusiasm to modify the S3 exhaust system but very few comments from anybody about why some people might wish to leave the exhaust alone.

Of course some people will prefer the sound with a resonator delete and that is up to them. To me it sounds rasping, coarse and not at all musical.

Here are a couple of articles about resonators, what they do and why they are there in the first place.

I work at Volkswagen and can confirm that replacing part of the exhaust only validates your exhaust warranty for the sections that attach to the new component and anything after that in the exhaust. Nothing else is affected

Only for my curiosity as I'm as cynical as they come. Could they (Audi) claim that if you had turbo trouble or engine issues for example that the deletion of the resonator affected the back pressure of the exhaust system which then led to the failure of that part? Just asking?

The way I look at it is they will always try and wriggle out of whatever they can the same way insurance companies do. I keep being tempted by the idea but I'm the type of person that if something bad is going to happen it'll always happen to me.

If you get the Audi resonator (US market)

I would like to see what Audi uk had to say about it, at the end of the day it has a Audi Part number on it.

Common mis-conception. I'm a service advisor at VW so deal with this thing. They will try and get any and all work as warranty because Audi/Volkswagen pays the dealer to carry out warranty repairs. So customers happy it cost nothing, dealers happy because they get revenue and good customer satisfaction. Win Win. Unless they can find a reason for Audi HQ to decline the repair then it will be done under warranty. So basically they will look for the actual faulty component, so long as theres no chip tuning they will replace it, send that part off and get Audi to pay for it, and ignore the rest
