ESP Fault please see owners manual

Just a quick update: I got my ABS Pump pressure sensor issue by VAS Motion - The VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda Specialists Garage, Guildford who are a lot closer to me than VOLKSMASTER OLDHAM - AUDI VW SPECIALIST I cannot fault VAS Motion work at all, made me feel welcomed, offering cups of tea and wifi access whilst waiting. The cost was £380 inclusive of ABS pump repair kit and fitting, can't recommended them enough...!! These lads are ex-audi tech master and certainly know their stuff, their workshop is spotless and clinically clean, ask for Gavin Page or Gareth Berry. Job well done :)

UPDATE: BTW it comes with 2 years warranty too...

Thats good to hear about another garage offering the service. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm almost certain this is the message I've just started seeing on start up. Like the OP, mine flashes up for less then half a second - hardly enough time to read it, along with the warning tone. The car starts and runs normally and no warning lamps come on.

In my other thread (Weird DIS message) that I started this AM Nige suggested it may be related to the fact the front brake pads have just been changed. The car was at Bradford Audi last week for its AVS and had the pads changed while there. I'd never seen this message before and only started getting it since it had the work done.

I called them this afternoon and their technician told me it was normal and just showed the computer was doing a self check. This seemed odd, if that's true why has it not done it before now?

What do you think? Am I being fobbed off?

If you have the G201 pressure sensor failure you will have the ABS light on all the time as the system will notify you its not working. If you don't have the ABS light on all the time then the system is active and working (you can double check by holding the button down and see if it notifies you when its deactivated).

I am led to believe that you have to have both the warning symbol in the instrument cluster and the system off switch illuminated to signify an ABS pump sensor failure, if it's just the esp fault message could it be just a wheel sensor thats gone.....

Many thanks
Michael

I havent posted for ages but once again ASN proves useful.

I have been getting the split second flash up error of ESP fault on start up intermittently for a few weeks now but my ESP switch works perfectly and i still have manually control switching the system on and off. No errors ever saty up on the DIS.

To make things even stranger, and as mentioned earlier in this thread, my mirrors have also started folding themselves out on start up( when switch set to close in) , something they have only done over the last week or two.

My xenon lights flicker badly after levelling on startup (when set to 'AUTO' lights) but a quick flick of the switch to 'off' and then manual dip beam cures this instantly but if left on 'Auto' it takes a kinute or two to sort themselves out of the flicker. When actiavting main beam it sounds very 'clonky' in the engine bay.

I can help think this could be a battery issue, even though the car starts perfectly. I suppose the first port of call would be a battery test.

Any thoughts welcomed. Many thanks

sorry for the huge bump, did you get this sorted?

my cars similar flashes up with it for a brief second. also windows wont open for the first 5 seconds or so.

I was getting this error message and warning bell on first start up too - literally lasting a split second - and usually happening when the car had been sitting over night. After that first start up of the day, it wouldn't happen again until the car had been left for a prolonged period of time. My theory was (and as backed up on the first page of this thread) that it was a voltage issue caused by a failing battery - it was not holding a charge and slowly draining away when left a while. After a couple of months of this 'problem' first starting, my car battery died completely.... And would you know it? Since replacing the battery, I've not once had the message! I wouldn't be surprised if this cold weather is killing off your battery too - may even be the cause of your window issue (electrics are a funny thing)

Also, don't start up the car straight away. Turn the ignition one turn (so that the dash lights up), wait for the ESP light to disappear from the dials, then turn again to start the car. I think that it's engaging/error checking whilst the symbol is lit up on the dials, and if you start up before the light goes out, it can confuse the car and throw up the brief error message

cheers will get to battery checked out, as i have subs and amps in the back :$

I've the ESP lights and the codes everyone sees 01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) / 12 - Electrical Fault in Circuit when I run a diagnostic. But the garages all say they need to run a diagnostic as it may not be the abs pump. (incl Volkmaster Audi)
Quoted £40 for diagnostic :-(
Is the ABS pump replacement the most expensive component of the potential causes? Just trying to understand what the max cost I'll pay for a fix or whether I just live with it.

Mine did it Saturday after I cleaned it with the pressure washer. Then again this morning for a split second. Could I have got water in the sensor or the cold weather effect it? Car drives fine so not sure if I should leave it or not?

takes the pi55 with audi , because if it was a seat with full history then they would replace the whole abs unit F.O.C i know this as ive had two mates had this done in the last 18 months .

I have had the ESP fault on and off for the past 6 months. At last my battery has died. It was fine on my journey home from work. Then ten minutes later, I went to go out again and the battery was flat. Annoying.

Hi does anyone get the message whilst driving mine comes on whilst driving then goes out nothing at start up and I can't find a common denominator when it does come on ??
