Engine number location

Hi, my bro also has a 1.8T A4, need to locate the engine number, I know where to find the 3 digit code but what about the actual engine number?

It will be on his V5 registration certificate below chassis number.

Well done, but to check the ACTUAL ENGINE number is the same as the V5, one would look where?

Its under the inlet manifold on a casting. AEB ***** etc

I can only make out the AEB and one number on mine, the rest are corroded
