been thinking about sticking a turbo on my N/A 1.8, but unsure if the internals are the same (i somehow doubt it what with compression ratio's, oil return etc...)

But i remember the old rover n/a and turbo were the same lump, they just selected the cars with low compression to be turbo'd.

Assuming all the mods could be made (oil return, manifold, turbo etc) could it, in theory at least, work? your thoughts???

Never build a car you can buy! Sell it and get a 20vT would be my advice.

At the least, buy a 1.8T engine complete.

    No fuss that way.

    ^^^Agreed...

Pretty sure you don't get forged pistons etc with the N/A and compression ratio would be too high anyway... then there is ECU etc and other hardware... on a car the A3 it really isn't worth doing this kind of work as VAG have already done it for you...

Sell yours, buy an A3 1.8t and start from there...
