    Guys,

I'm fully aware of what's involved to enable the coming home and leaving home lights functionality and that you must have OEM auto lights, auto dim mirror and rain sensor pack (with a new windscreen etc...). I've spoken to a few forum members here about it across different posts and PM's as well as speaking to Hazzy Dayz directly, so I fully recgonise it's an £1100 or so job all in. That's manageable but of course a cost I could do without ultimately.

The reason I want it is purely for the leaving home lights, I'm not concerned about the coming home lights as they can be manually triggered by a flash of the headlights before exiting the car any way.

Therefore, I thought I'd ask the question - can I code or wire the car to permanently use the leaving home lights when using the unlock car feature on the key fob, night and day? I don't think if it's Xenons and sides or the sides and fog light feature instead, I just want a light source. My Mk5 Golf GTI 2.0T had this (with OEM Xenons) and it was a feature I miss the most.

The next curve ball is that I've got an MY10 8P3 A3 Black Edition 2.0TDI 170PS without the auto lights/wipers/auto dim mirror from factory and I know programming the 2009+ CECM's is still an art people are discovering & developing. The car obviously has factory fitted OEM Bi-Xenons and LED DRLs.

I've already checked out Marc's very useful guide to forcing CH/LH lights on the 8P1 & 8P2 chassis cars (and bought a repair wire) but it's something I read conclusively has not been successfully achieved yet on a 2010 or later A3. (This is the link I'm referring to: cominghomelights - Audi Retrofit)

For reference too, enabling CH & LH lights in the DIS didn't do it on it's own (not that it would, but worth a try).

So, bearing in mind I've got VCDS (am a fairly competent user) and have a bit of cash to throw at this, what's my next step to establish the coding and potentially wiring involved to force the car to use leaving home lights (and coming home if that's part of the deal) all the time?

    Thanks,
    -Pete.

Only vaguely related, I left my lights on and switched off the engine yesterday, I was surprised that when I locked it the lights stayed on. My BMW would also kill the lights after a short period which always seemed a very sensible way of preventin battery drain... I found it odd the Audi doesn't...

You don't need auto lights or sensors for CH\LH on MY09, I've had it activated on my car for months & don't think MY10 will be any different!

I think it's just a case of coding, but shoot NHN (Nigel) a pm for a definitive answer.

    Hi mate,
I have enabled the CH lights on a 2009 A3, but not sure if it can be done on a 2010 car... Audi have changed some things on the newer cars which stops us from enabling it with just coding.

here is the thread of a person that i did the coding on:
    http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-...t-coming-home-lights-succesfully-enabled.html

also for the auto lights install its no where near £1100... that i have to say is a massively overpriced quote... i do those installs for half that price all with genuine parts.

What did you change or set in VCDS Ash?! :)
More than intrigued to know. The thread doesn't imply what was actually done at a tech level.

    Thanks.

Very simply just code it to C/H enabled.
As far as i can remember this option no longer exists in the newer cars.

it was explained on the other thread on post 5:

I'm specifically talking leaving home lights here however, which is what I find more useful than coming home lights

(I can activate coming home lights with the stalk flick no problem at all so that's not a priority. Leaving home lights are what I want to figure out)

So, to enable the leaving home lights. Ideas? lol.

I've just enabled this (once again) to prove the point in my March 2010 MY10 Audi A3 Black Edition 2.0 TDI 170PS 3 door.
Ticked the leaving home lights option while also setting a 50 second timeout for it and got out the car, locked it. I then unlocked it after 30 seconds and just hazard flash, no further lights illuminated.

So without wiring, this definitely isn't possible.

What can I wire, attack or try next?

    Appreciate any pointers. Ta :icon_thumright:

What would you need to see Phil, a diag scan are you talking?

If not, which codings? If you point me in the right direction I'll grab some screen shots of the codings you need to visualise.

You mention it's simple to enable, leaving home lights seem anything but without the OEM auto light setup :sorry: lol.

From what i have seen it cannot be activated on the 2010+ cars, though i would like to see someone crack it.

if you do need the auto lights installed get in touch and i can do it for you ;)

What's best to do here Phil, run a diag auto scan so you know what parts & components I've got? Cheers.

I have a 2012 s line with xenons/led drl - can you explain this (manual trigger?) further and would it work with mine for coming home lights?

    Cheers,

You may need to enable coming home in the DIS for this, but before you get out the car, move the headlight switch to DRL. Pull the beams stalk once to flash the lights. As you get out the car, the trigger for this is the drivers door opening - the Xenons headlamps or sides and fogs will then illuminate for a set period (also set in the DIS or VCDS).

    HTH.

I think the wiring for this feature has something to do with the 'auto' headlight switch? Im gonna do some digging in Elsawin!

    No break through?

The problem is, I just know I'll spend a lot of cash on retrofitting the full autolights/rain sensor/autodim mirror and weeks later, someone will make a break through with the leaving home lights without auto pack :lmfao:

Thinking about it, even my mates 2008 Ford Fiesta triggers the sidelights, tail lights and number plate lights when unlocking day or night. Surely, surely surely with the VCDS control we have over the ECU on the A3 (even the 8P3!), there's some way of forcing the leaving home lights to trigger on unlock whether it's day or not?

I'm determined to pursue this one and get everyone thinking
I'll tap up a few resources on mk5golfgti.co.uk too...

    Cheers.

Has anyone enabled Leaving Home lights on a 2010 A3 that doesn't use OEM auto lighting?

I'm still very keen for this and don't want to invest in the auto lights to get the Leaving Home lights. Even if I fit the sensor and required wiring to do it, I just want to know it's technically possible before I buy the parts and try it?

    Cheers.

Well without the light sensor its not possible... the hacks just dont seem to work!

as for getting the sensor and wiring i can confirm that does work, its not cheap but much better

The beauty of this Ash is that not only do I not want or need the auto light functionality but also because this would indicate the existing windscreen would remain (essential, no debate about changing it - for me personally, anyway).

I've seen a loose friend provide sort-of step by step pics on how he changed the standard dim RV mirror casing on his 2006 Leon Cupra to the auto dim RV mirror casing. Confirmed with a couple of people and it's believed the same is possible on the 8P A3 which could include the sensor too.

Have you got part numbers at all for the sensor and required wiring, Ash?

I simply want the LH stuff firstly, CH as a second thought. I wouldn't even mind if I could enable something that meant the LH triggered in daylight too. It's extremely useful at night.

    Cheers.
