Emission control light

Hi all
When the wife got in the car to come home tonight the emission control light came on.......anyone had this happen?
Any ideas whats causing it??

I feel a VCDS scan coming on.

What engine do you have, Tuffy? Mine's a 3.0TDi, and the dreaded light usually signals problems with the inlet manifold swirl flaps.

(Well it did on mine, anyway.)
