Hi, looking input/advice from the A4 masses...

I have an A4 Avant 1.8T LE (2004 - B6), last week during another of our Northern Irish cold snaps (daily) i went to put the electric window down on the drivers side and it didnt go down, no disastrous noises or anything it just didnt lower when i wanted it too.

Obviously being a bloke i tried a few times but still nothing..

Today i called at an Auto sparks and he told me it could be the regulator (thats the term he used), he described it as a piece of steel wire that would normally snap if the window was frozen in place and was trying to open.

Would this be a fairly correct diagnosis, has anyone else experienced this and if so what were the repair costs involved..?

If i could do it myself i would but obviously don't want to attempt something which could be beyond me..

    Any help apprecieted..

    Thanks

    Avo..:sos:

I had the same problem before christmas, window was frozen shut and when I tried to open it the regulator broke.
Took it to my local Audi specialist and it was about £45 for a new regulator, problem solved.

Was that an Audi dealership or just someone that specialises in Audi's..? How long did it take them to sort, just tight on time here apart from weekends.

I've been quoted £44.41 for a regulator from Euro Car Parts inc VAT which i can cope with if thats all it requires to fix..

    Cheers for reply..

Same problem here on my A3 - any ideas of cost would be great from a specialist or Audi dealer, Thanks

That was from a local specialist. He got the part himself and took about 3 hours to fit.

    Cheers..

Had a gander on Ebay etc and there are repair kits consisting of the plastic clips and cables for around the £20 range but you can also buy the whole item with everything bar the motor for around £45-£65..

I just searched under A4 Window Regulators..

According to the place I went to, the repair kits aren't worth bothering with and if you can still hear the motor or something moving when you flick the switch, you won't need to replace it
