    Does anyone know of an egr removal thread for the tdi 140 bkd engine?

    I've searched but could not find anything .

    As in to take it off and clean?

    If so unclip the front intake pipe then its just a few allen bolts iirc.

    I cleaned mine about a year ago, thinking of just removing it and having it mapped out now though.

    Thanks , is there any specific way that how to unclip the intake pipe? I can see the silver clip thing going around but not sure how to take it off ?

    Sorry if it's easy I'm just trying a bit of diy :)

    You dont pull the clip off...just prise it back a bit to release the pipe.

    I used parafin to clean it....very messy job

    The clip doesn't need to come off all together, if you pull it a bit it will click into the service position and allow you to remove the pipe. It pulls out about a cm.

    Ok cheers chaps, so I bet that it's going to be a pain to get it back on?

    There's a thin black rubber pipe that's connected , how does that come off ?

    Thats the Egr and shutter valve. i just wiggled it off, just a vacuum pipe.

    You shouldn't have any issues putting it back on unless you drop a bolt, then you have to take the belly pan off, like i did :p

    The vac pipe will be a tight fit if its never been off before. I used a flat headed screwdriver to ease it off, as just pulling it made it tighter, a bit like those chinese finger puzzle things.

    Ha Luckily the belly pan is off as I want to attempt to check the pipes to the intercooler , is that a hard job replacing the seals on the intercooler pipes?

    Lol yeah it wouldn't pull off...well not without great force so the screwdriver worked a treat .

    Right my car has 115000 miles on it and last Sunday I used wynns egr clean and sprayed it in to the intake after removing air filter .

    So I've just taken the egr off to give it a proper clean and this is what it looks like before I start...(shutter valve attached as informed ) :)

    It doesn't look to bad does it?

    Nope doesn't look too bad tbh. The excess crankcase pressure is vented into the intake so it will always be a bit oily. I've seen EGR valves gunged up much worse than that.

    As for the intercooler pipes they are a doddle if you have axle stands/ramps and the undertray off. They are the same connection as the hose that you disconnected from the anti shudder valve. May be worth checking the clips as they seem to get tired and lose their springiness (sp?), which is what holds them tight. I replaced the clips and seals as they were only a couple of quid from Audi.

    Ah cool thanks for the info, sounds easy enough , I'll see if my local audi has those in stock in the morning and give it a crack.

    Maybe that wynns egr clean worked and cleaned it out a little , I was expecting it to be really clogged up but happy days either way.

    So I've given the egr and shutter valve a proper clean up and refitted....only difference I have found is the idle is a hell of a lot smoother...whether it will stay like smooth who knows...only time will tell.

    Still other issues with car but I'll start another thread if I can't find anything related from a search.

    This has helped me out. Yesterday I was trying to clean mine and thought that the coolant part of the egr was the actual egr valv. I failed to take it off as you need 10mm spline socket to remove that, looks like that was wrong anyway. I'll look around the otherwise of the engine and try again next weekend :)
