EGR Blanking plate 2.0 TDI. Any improvements?

    Hello there!

    I recently removed and cleaned up my EGR as it was completely covered and also noticed the inlet manifold was pretty thick too. I decided to try a blanking plate for the EGR to see if it made it run any better.
    I bought it off of eBay for £2.99, took 2 minutes to fit...but i haven't really noticed any difference, it seemed to idle a little better but apart from that nothing. It also caused the engine management light to come on.

    Just wondering has anyone else tried it and actually found it has improved anything?

    I fitted one on sat! Seems to idle loads better, im currently monitoring mpg to see if there is any improovement which there is meant to be!

    Yer I noticed the idle, and now you mention it, my mpg was running high 40's mid 50's most of the time. Has it made your engine management light come on? I have taken mine off again the engine management light has gone off. Might put it on again and leave it for a bit longer.

    The engine management light will stay on until you have the car remapped and have the EGR valve deleted out of the new map.

    If you continue to run your standard map then the EGR valve will always bring on the engine management light and you can't turn it off in VCDS as far as I'm aware, I've looked into it before.

    It runs smoother because the engine isn't getting dirty sooty air fed into it!

    If you do a blank, then it's good to decoke the inlet too, you will be suprised how dirty it is. The car needs remapping in order to switch off the management loght

    Thanks for the help and advice!! Seem to be finding more problems with my car as the mileage increases, on 130k now!

    Seat do a 'reduced' size EGR gasket which is meant for the MK3 Seat Ibiza for about £5 which fits, try using one of those & it will restrict the EGR but not totally close it so the engine will run better but not show any warning lights on the dash

    It's a standard part I believe the code is : 028131547B , I havent fitted mine yet as the car has other issues to be dealt with first, but its a popular mod on the Seat forums & for around a fiver its worth a look. The only thing that may come up is with a diagnostic scan the car will show as having an EGR flow rate not being correct, however as we're the ones restricting the flow it's nothing to worry about, no lights should be popping up on the dash though.

    What's the benefit of doing this?

    Will it make the 2.0L engine a tad more refined on idle or is it wishful thinking?

    Offtopic: Seeing you all guys talking about 40-50MPG makes me said.. I average around 35 on my 2.0. :(

    Delete and code out is the way forward we have 1 delete and 1 stock, mines messed about with, swmbo is stock, the difference is blindingly obvious hers shakes like a sh@tting dog at idle
