Blanked my EGR off today, but after a couple of driving cycles the EML has come on. (19586 EGR System Regulation Range Exceeded)
Just wondering if I can change any adaptation settings to overcome this?

You need this coded out by a proper tuner.

Have you spoken to CMD? I'm sure he has mentioned meets in that area before.

This is why I used the Allard EGR Delete kit as you remove the EGR vaulve, hence no more EGR problems and no engine management lights.

No nothing, been done over a couple of months now and no problems, I had one issue where the ESP and glowlight lights came on and the car lost all power but a scan showed a throttle problem, removed and cleaned plug on throttle pedal and all been ok since.

I wonder if its different on the 1.9 B6, as I always knew they had to be coded out, but alas every days a school day.

Must be, I would have thought I would have had EML issues by now if I was going to.

EML came back on today after 4 driving cycles:banghead:
Oh well looks like I'll be taking the blanking plate off. Annoying as the car definitely feels sharper, & more responsive with the blanking plate on. Even the wife commented last night that the car felt powerful, & she doesn't know I'd changed anything!

Same here - EGR blanking plate fitted 6 months ago with no issues, and no EML. Deffo better and crisper performance without it.

I was told by a mate (who also happens to be an auto electrician) that only the later models with an electronic sensor fitted would bring the EML light on. Mine only has the vacuum pipe fitted - so I fitted the blanking plate.

But, if the OP's 2002 model brings the EML on, maybe he's wrong? Confused.com!!

Only way the ecu would know there was an issue is if its monitoring the egr flap/flow via a sender, so maybe some earlier cars didnt have this inline & it as just a dumb valve as such, who knows.

My car is a late 2003. I guess it must have a flow sensor. Reducing the EGR cycle seems to have extended the time before the EML comes, but obviously the ECU still doesn't like the EGR being blanked off.

so if the light cant be switched off/written out with vcds who would be able to this?? my car is much better and chucks out much less smoke since i blanked mine, so i dont really want to unblank it!!!

I'd say any tuner that writes maps, as allot of tuners are just resellers of a mapping ecosystem as such, I found not allot can actually write a map & thus couldnt actually do an egr write out as such.

Depends on the ECU, but if it's from a B6 it would be £95 or free as part of a remap.

That's odd mapping out the EGR is pretty standard stuff for most tuners!

Not if they're a virtual/file tuner, then they're stuck to what there file suppliers can do, you need a real tuner who can actually write a map themselves to be able to do it all at same time, in most circumstances.

I'm sure some TDI's use the MAF sensor to monitor the EGR, as the EGR opens and lets in the exhaust, the MAF reading should drop accordingly... don't quote me on it though

My 2004 had the EGR warning light come on after a few cycles when I disconnected and plugged up hose.......i reconnected everything and cleared the code and back to normal.

I may disconnect again and live with the warning light until MOT time.

I believe Viezu Technologies : Car Tuning, Performance Engine Tuning, ECU Remapping / ECU Remaps are a proper coder.

My standard map was sent to them to be adjusted and mapped bespokely.....

The problem was specifically with the AVF engine code it seemed as been fine for other 1.9 tdi said my garage....

I have offered to put my car forward as a test bed so they can try some live mapping on it to get rid of EGR.....shall see what they say :)

sadly they are not interested, tried but the car is too old for them to want to do anything with it.

I see mentioned above, that someone in Stockport can take it out for £95, is that with someone elses map? If not, the EGR is going back on!

I think it's more to do with the age of the car rather than the engine code.... i have an AVF in a 2002 car and dissabled the EGR by unplugging the pipes and blanking them off,,,, the Golf Tee method this means the valve is closed in it's default position but never gets opened .... i've never had a fault code in 12 months of doing it

Have you guys tried the small hole EGR gasket, limits the flow through the EGR but doesn’t completely stop it meaning you shouldn’t get the EML coming on.

Having sold a number recently the owners of said vehicles have noticed a marked improvement in drivability and issues they were experiencing without the cost of an EGR blanking plate, delete kit or software change.

Couldn't find anything on the JBS website. Can you give more details i.e. fitting & price?
