Looking to get another key for our Audi, I was told by Audi that I'd be looking at around
£170-200 to get a new key and have it programmed.

Have just spoken to an auto locksmiths who tell me that I'm best to get it done by Audi even though they said they could do it.

Reckons that unless it's Audi kit I could end up having issues with the clocks/trip computer etc if done by anyone other than Audi themselves.

Anyone clued up on this that can shed some
Light or recommend someone to use.
I am based in South Gloucestershire GL11 if it helps

ask a few different dealers - as their prices seem to vary!

Ive looked into doing this and it is possible to do it yourself using VCDS.

You can program your new key to lock and unlock your car easily in VCDS but to start the car you need to pass the immobiliser, which iirc takes a code which Audi wont give you, you need to VAGTacho, irrc, to extract the code and use it in VCDS to program the new fob fully.

I've never done it but from what I looked into thats what I found out.

I did my B5 with VAGTacho to get the SKC number and VCDS to program the key,
some info on suppliers here [h=3]Replacement Keyfob and Blade.[/h]
    on the B5 forum

It wasn't that hard, just a bit scary at first!

I believe up until 2005, the 4 digit SKC was supplied with the car, but after 2005 they refrained from supplying it and also they became a 7 digit code. Someone may correct me but I believe that is correct.
