The problem with the DMF is that its not flat, the clutch sits down in a dip, so fitting a larger one isnt really possible.

Sachs only links the S2 one against the 2.8TDI.

The 2.8 and 2.5 are very different engines and the flywheels are completely different.

The S2 cover is also used on Audi 100 and 200 "2.2 Turbo" models, but i've had a look and the only clutches for those on ebay look a bit ****.

ok. may have found one. from an AGK 2.8 engine. (i presume this is the right one, i think i saw that code on the sachs catalogue).

probably a daft question but does the orientation of the pressure plate in relation to the SMF have a specific, or can it be put on in any orientation?

You got a link to the one you've found? Or a part number?

Dont think it matters, the locating dowels are equi-spaced round the circumference.

I've found out from the seller I can get just the pressure plate from him for £30 (if it will work?), then all I need is the V8 disk and a release bearing (from/for what?)

    Aragorn/Jason can you advise?

Release bearing is just a standard A4 one.

The clutch you found appears correct, in sofar as the engine code is right. It doesnt look the same as mine though.

what is the edge to edge diameter of your 1Z flywheel? (across the friction side), mine looks too small to take a 240 plate  could be wrong....

The cover plate hangs off the edge by a few mm's, and the bolts are really close to the edge.

I can measure it if you want though.

yeah if you could :salute: Thanks

does the "overhang" need to be trimmed back to the edge of the , or will it not foul anything and can be left as is?

Also, just found an S4 (BBK engine) 4 paddle clutch too :eyebrows: or would that be too brutal/not work :whistle2:

Flywheel measures 277mm and the pressure plate outer edge is 280mm

No idea if it needs trimmed though.

Forget paddles, they'll just chew the flywheel and coverplate to bits

EDIT: Answered own question. MB same as 1B 2.2T (87-89)

    Right, Update time.

Cannot get a 3B kit or even LT van pressure plate. So it seems that idea is well out of the window, as i need one by tuesday at the latest to get it machined ready for next weekend (Fitting Time)

Seems my only option is the 1Z clutch kit and hope its up to the job... :( Bugger...

seen as though my standard 1.8t clutch cant take a bar of boost from the t28 ive decided to change to single mass fly whilst im on, i have a vr6 paddle clutch that i am going to use (providing it has same size splines) its 228mm, does that mean i can just get a 1z flywheel and use the vr clutch, 1z pressure plate and release bearing and it will bolt in and work??? :D

oh bugger lol well the clutch seems ok again now, hopefully it was just oil from the rear crank seal leaking onto it, it was nearly new to look at.. what sorta torque/bhp does the standard clutch give in?

The friction plate for the A4 should have 23 splines for the input shaft iirc remember reading it somewhere.
