My local Audi garage has quoted £196 to do this job and the nearest recommended Audi/VW specialist to me is still 40 miles away.

So I'm thinking of getting a local garage to do the work, or is it a specialist job?

I dont want it bodged haha

They'll need a special tool to do it. To be honest I wouldn't trust anyone apart from Audi or a specialist to do it. The oil is expensive so I don't reckon you'll save that much on the work any way.
Not worth the risk IMO. Especially when you consider that its grands to replace a DSG box.

nottingham audi have quoted me £199 to do mine and apparently need all morning or afternoon to do it

Where ever you get it done get them to confirm that they'll be changing the filter also. There have been reports of dealers doing the oil change WITHOUT changing the filter.

Halesowen Audi quoted me £160 to do it. i doubt you'll get a specialist to beat £160 by much.

Really? Might see if Shrewsbury Audi are willing to price match then as I've been quoted £196 !!

I've looked everywhere, £140 is the cheapest. Apparently the oil on its own is £70?

Well I just rang Shrewsbury Audi back after they had quoted me £196 and said that I can get it done elsewhere for £160. They said pretty much straight away that they will do it for £169 for me :)

So almost £30 saved just for asking.

Midland VW quoted me £120 for the DSG oil and filter change

Yeah I personally would use a dealer, there is a process to follow with vas/vagcom & the special vacuum pipe they use to insert the oil & do the procedures of engine at a certain heat etc etc.

I know someone who did himself & made the tool, but for the sake of £160 every 40k or so, I'd stick with dealer, also as Aythreee says, get filter changed at same time & be sure they do change it aswell.

The thing is you can only take their word for it cant you? Any way of checking?
I have specifically asked if they will change the filter and they said that they do but how do you know?

You've asked them the question, they've said they will change it. Sometimes you've gotta just trust people.

Besides, the stories that I've heard about filters not being changed have been down to stupidity and not the dealer trying to pull a fast one to save a few bucks.

Or you can request to have it done in front of you via the new system I have been told, where you can view the car being worked on through the glass & the technician maybe will have a head cam, not seen in use yet but my mate at audi service said was training for it a while ago, maybe audi thought again, but I'd be asking to see it done if I didnt know the guys that well.
