Dsg - drive or neutral

    when im at lights do i sit in D or in N?

    there seems to be alot less strain on the engine when its in N.

    Personal preference, but normally leave in D.

    Short stops leave in D, and long stops i.e roadworks etc i put it in N

    Always keep it in N when stationary. Hate the thought transmission is pulling a little when in D.

    I've mentioned this before and no-one commented, but with the footbrake on in D mine 'pulls' all the time. If I use the handbrake, it pulls for a few seconds then stops pulling and I can take the handbrake off and it just sits where it is; touch the throttle and it's off as smooth as silk. This is on level ground and slight rises, so don't know if it has HHA.

    If I see it's gonna be a long wait before green, I slide it in neutral, and I can feel the car "letting go". So leaving it in D must put some sort of stress on the clutch and transmission.

    Actually the other day when I sat at the lights waiting and getting bored, I kept pushing the brake pedal several times cause you can feel the locking mechanism on the gear lever kicking in and out. Anyways, shortly after I started driving, the glow plug coil light started flashing for a little minute before it went away. Scanned the ECU with VAGCOM when I got home, and there was an error on the engine stating something like: Brake switch fault, intermediate. So I guess it registered me playing with the brake pedal as an error. Just FYI :)

    Arent you supposed to put it in P if you are stopped long enough. When my mate had lessons not too long ago thats what he was told.

    Yeah, I do if it's a loooong time waiting :) But not for 15-30 seconds. Then its usually N

    Errr, no. That's for parking! Means you go through R to get to D and the driver behind p****s him/herself when your reverse lights come on.:w00t:

    Actually, I think Audi has been smart enough to have a slight delay before the reverse lights come on so that you don't have that issue when going from D to P. :D Same thing when switching between different light modes.

    I tend to leave mine in D when stationary only when on a hill so I can make most of the hill-hold. Otherwise I'll leave it in N. Though I often wonder what the driver behind me thinks when the brake lights come on momentarily before I set off...
