Had my mechanic check out a rattle sound I was getting in low revs whilst in gear on my B8 A4. Turns out there's a fair bit of movement on the passenger side driveshaft where it enters the gearbox that is most likely the culprit. He checked with a guy who fixes gearboxes who said that my box is basically scrap and can't be fixed but that I could drive away on it and still get a lot of time out of it, which is my intentions as I have no other issues with the box.
Apparently the flange is gone, or words to that effect. Have any of you any experience of this and if so is what I have been told correct? I don't mind putting a secondhand gearbox in the car when it comes time but just looking a second opinion.
