Utterly random question, haha, but something that someone may have first hand experience of..

Will a 4'6" double mattress squeeze into the back of an A3 8P?

I could go and measure but as the mattress can be squashed down, even if it it seems too large, it could may well fit.

TIA :)

yes folded up

Yes, I fitted my old one in mine before, sort of rolled/folded up and tied with my tow rope and some old wire I had.

Haha... One of the best questions iv seen on here. Ha.

I doubt it will fit tho bud!!

Top mark for the question though :)

I was thinking this earlier, perfect timing. So the general answer is that the length is okay but you have to roll it to some extent to get it to fit the width? Cheers guys, I've got one to move shortly after I get my car, and I've tried moving one tied to the top of a car before (Mk1 Escort)... not the most fun I've ever had, and not recommended for windy days.

Are you going dogging? :lmfao:

Haha. Im going for something along these lines with an 8P shell ;)

It will fit if you cut it in half :))

Sorry......Sensible head on!!.....As the others have said, it can be done but you may end up with some sticking out of the boot as the length wont quite fit in, but the width can be bent/squashed to fit in, so make sure you drive with your windows open so you don't breath in all the exhaust fumes.

That's how I did it, but on thinking about it now, I reckon that if you fold the mattress in half from top to bottom rather than side to side, then it should fit in completely and allow you to shut the boot as well !!

Rear visibility will be like looking out of a letter box though :)

Let us know how you get on.....and get some pics too for a laugh !

Good luck.

Don't forget the bedding!! a mattress with no bedding screams 'poor' ;)

It will fit btw ;) managed to get one in my 8L S3 few years back folded in two :)

I had two Single Mattresses in mine over the weekend if that helps :)

This may be odd but I'm actually really wanting to see these pictures! - and I don't even have a matress to move LMAO - brilliant thread haha

Jonny you are one kinky biatch.

Get a sticker for your motor saying 'if this A3s a rockin then don't come a knockin.

If its memory foam then it will be allot easier, as spring ones always push back immediately, but the foam will hold its position usually long enough to push it in to the boot area, got tempurs & they can squash up well into tight space, I'd say yes :)

Sorry to dissapoint but my Dad offered to pick up the mattress in his VW Caravelle so there unfortunately wont be any photos of my attempt at squeezing the mattress into the back of my 8P :(

I was quite looking forward to it myself actually... so much so that I may take the mattress off the bed and squeeze it in the back of my 8P, just for research purposes :)

Orgh, gutted haha

Yeh! You might inspire a 'maddest thing you've had in the back of an A3' thread - (and no that doesn't include wives or girlfriends! haha)

Kinda wish I took a photo of the time me and some friends tried to steal a Sheep from the Yorkshire Moors, haha.

I reckon if you went to Wales you'd find quite a few cars with both mattresses and sheep in the back.

Purely for the entertainment of this thread, I thought I'd get off work a bit earlier so I could nip down to B&Q and see if an interior door would fit in the back of an 8P.

Check.

This thread has got so much potential. Who can fit the funniest/biggest/strangest thing in their boot and post a photo of it in here! Game on...

i managed to get a fully constructed Ikea 6 chest drawer in the back of my car.

I had to move the front seats a little forward but it was still good enough to drive comfortably. :)

Like Ads says, sorry but no pics means no proof so it didn't happen..:)

I mean, I once saw a couple of Elephants and all of Girls Aloud in my SB,( but I was on medication at the time..:))

And jb0o, is that the first glimpse of the new A3 4 door ?

Bit of a bump, I know, but I thought it was worth a picture when I remembered this thread while loading the car

1 mattress (double) in an a3 Quattro sportback

I also managed to fit in several boxes and a large suitcase. The a3 is bigger than I thought...
