Door mirror glass

Just replaced my door mirror as original was broken. Wasn't lucky enough to get a black replacement so will have to paint the green one. My question is how do you remove the glass without breaking it! I am guessing the cover is fixed on from behind the mirror glass?

According to Mr Haynes you use a wide instrument like a wallpaper scraper and lever the glass out from the bottom.

Have always got away with pushing it one way, getting your fingers behind it and pulling. Never had a problem doing it like this.

as above, I believe the correct way is to remove the bottom two screws (which are alwasy rusted to f'ck!).
fingers behind and careful is the easiest way IMO

On my Golf I smashed it with a hammer and scraped the broken glass from the adhesive backing in the midday sun. I got a nice tan.
